    Sailfish Winterizing

Not sure if you have same setup as mine but just below the washdown pump I have a 1/2" plug that comes off the side. It's above the seacock. I removed the plug and installed a 1/2" NTP to 3/8" barb fitting and put on a 2' length of poly hose which I stuck in a gallon of pink antifreeze. I used...

I'm looking for info about the Newport Rhode Island area.

Thanks Sailfish, I'm going to look into getting reservations and see about docking. I'm spending more time researching next summers boat trip then my trip in a few weeks to Europe. You Southern boaters don't have these 6 month season problems.

I'm looking for info about the Newport Rhode Island area.

I'm thinking about going to Newport R.I. for a week next summer (2010) I have a time share and found a few places in Newport. That would be a fun ride from Sag Harbor and I figure i could ferry over to Block Island for a day trip. My question is this, What's there to do in the Newport area for a...

    Taxachusetts strikes again!!!

Personally I think all states should mandate a boaters safety course for the registered owner. Last season I pulled in a dead in the water 19' bowrider with 9 people on board with a storm approaching. If that guy had a safety course it might not have happened. I did have assistance from the...

148 more days until the boat goes in.

I'm at a town marina and rules are rules. :( Although, I might ask my neighbor to use his dock for a few weeks in April before his boat splashes. He's a fair weather boater. I live on the poor side of the road. I just get to look at the water.

What GPS is the easiest to use?

Looking at the Garmin GPS440S I've got a buck 380 I'm willing to give you for your crappy GPS  . Seriously, I'm looking hard at the Garmin GPS440S. Great price right now a bit over 400.00 w/o the transducer which won't be needed. I went to West Marine and actually looked and used the...

Termination of LORAN signals next year!

I think Garmin makes a combo unit? But I guess it will go on clearance now. LOL They are also dropping some of the EPIRB signal monitoring as well. Actually I think that's already in effect. Most of the newer boaters probably never saw a Loran.

Transducer question? on 282 Sailfish Also VHF Question?

I looked at a few 282's out of the water and found a good location to mount the tilted element. Now is a great time to look at other boats. They are all on land for the winter. I ordered the unit as well as a bunch more stuff to make my boat safer for next season. Thanks for the advise though...

What GPS is the easiest to use?

My dad bought a new Yamaha jet boat and I want to get him a very easy to use plotter. It does not need a sounder, There will never be a fishing pole on his boat. That's what my boat is for. All it would need is the ability to store a few routes which I would load before he uses it. The boat will...

    Livewell Leaking?

I've never noticed mine ever taking on a drop of water. But then my plug is never installed. I never shut the seacock but will start shutting them now. The only seacock I always shut was the discharge from the toilet tank. If you get caught with that open you will be fined. I will now make sure...

    2006 282 Sailfish generator?

Alternative to installing a generator. I also have a 282 and I use a Honda 2000 portable suit case generator. It stores easily and when running it, I kept it outside of the transom door. You could also put it on the port side away from the door if you like.(very quiet) Runs everything on the...

Transducer question? on 282 Sailfish Also VHF Question?

Thanks on the VHF Advice. I'm going to order the S/H 3000 S and I already have the Digital antenna. That was the first thing I installed on the boat. I'm thinking I should just buy Capt Bill's boat. I'm copying everything on it. :) I went on the BOE website and I'm placing an order from...

Transducer question? on 282 Sailfish Also VHF Question?

I have been told that to install a tilted element transducer I need to move either my SW washdown or livewell pickup strainer back to make room. I looked at another 282 on land at Spellmans and there was a tilted element mounted outboard of the inside stringer between the stringer and transducer...

    282 Sailfish Power Options

I have 2 trucks set up for towing. I use my Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4. Which in my opinion is overkill but I bought this truck to tow my race car trailer. I also have an 06 GMC 1500 regular cab 4x4. I've towed my 28' enclosed trailer which is about 10k loaded. Yes it did struggle a bit but that was...

    282 Sailfish Power Options

That's only 2 MPH slower then my 282 with 225's Wow, The 200's are faster then I thought. My 282 w/225's is topped out at 39.6 knots which is about 46 mph. in a calm sea with light wind. That is with all canvas installed and close to full tanks of fuel and water. I hear the 250's are...
