Has anyone used epoxy as a clear finish over mahogany? I am trying to find a finish that would last longer than an oil. I plan on replacing the teak strips in my Tournament with some mahogany that I have.

You mention along with others about the cabin windows, is there rot around the frame, or the windows themselves leak? You also mentioned stringer holes not being sealed, I'm sure my boat is the same way but I haven't seen any rot so I would assume a sailfish would not be any different.

Basically it sounds like most of the same things I have done to my Tournament. I certainly will be giving this forum a workout if I get one of those boats.

I am currently looking at an 82 225 Sailfish w/o a hardtop. If I buy the boat I would like to install a used hardtop. My question is would I have to find one specific to that year or would I have a range of years to choose from? Also would any reinforcements have to be made? Thanks in advance.

I am getting ready to do my transom the way you did yours from the inside. Looking at the boat the other day a question came to mind, after you cut through the battery boxes and the transom well were you able to remove it in one piece or did you have to cut it again to get it out?

Thanks guys for the advice. To stick with an OMC makes sense dollar wise and labor wise. I am going to check out re-building what I have. As a side note ,what would the value of 82 Tournament with a bad motor be?

The yamaha is for sale for 1500.00 and supposedly has 378 hours on it, didn't seem to bad to me. We are considering moving up to a used gulfstream so I just wanted a quick fix so if we decided to sell I would have a good motor for the boat. If nothing else we could use it for next season. Can't...
