    All New Electronics Package ?

Maybe I am old fashion, maybe not. I don't rely on good electronics for navigation. They are a tool, but good seamanship, good navigation skills, including chart navigation, and good common sense are what save your life. Electronics just make it easier. I navigate the 1000 islands with a...

    How much water ...

I get down to about 3 foot at the end of the season, but the weeds get so thick it begins to clog my intakes or foul the prop so bad I can't maneuver. I am asking for a deeper slip next year. I didn't like my alarm going off, or having to clean my intakes. It got so bad I couldn't flush it...

Coast Guard Over-Reaching the Law in Chesapeake

Typically the Coasties aren't that picky. Unless he did something to really piss them off. I don't think there is a law at that length for a rope attached, but I have been out of it for a few years. There is always a few bad apples in any group, I just hope it doesn't make you think bad of...

    Overnighter question

yeah, clearly not a 86. They stopped that hull on the overnighter in 83. It might be that. Have him send you the Hull ID number, that will clear it up. The year is right in front.

    Overnighter 204 or 206?

I have a Overnighter 206. The engine sits on a mount behind the boat allowing for a full transom. The 204 has the engine as part of the transom with a notch for the motor. I prefer the 206 due to the fact that it allows for more room in the stern. Here is a link to the catalog for 1987...

    Towing other Boats

Thanks for all the help on this. I contacted Grady and after 3 attempts I got an answer. Not sure why they failed to write back until the third time but whatever. They said the rear eyes are for lifting and are strong enough. As expected they said use all the standard precautions and don't...

    2 stroke oil tank question

For what its worth Mine is the same way as yours and I have a 87 Johnson. Also it acted that way with my 1996 120HP Johnson. Hard as a rock, never needed to be pumped.

    Weak Telltale

I started mine after not running for a few weeks and saw a very weak telltale. It was in the yard on a trailer with the hose hooked up to muffs. So I took the cover off and saw stuff hanging out of the discharge hose end. I restarted the engine, and manipulated the ends of the discharge and a...

    Some Canadian Steelhead for ya

I assume you mean the Salmon River out of Pulaski NY. I have a camp on that River up from the reservoir. My brother fishes on it religiously and says it is doing well. He also frequents Cattaraugus Creek and Silver Creek off Erie South of Buffalo.

    Looking at a 1988 2280 Cuddy Sport

I assume you mean a 228G with a Grady drive. NADA says the boat without engine is average retail for around $5200. What electronics are on board? What condition is it in? I bought mine with engine for $5000 granted it is smaller, but was a fresh water boat and the survey came out great...

Question for all the knot and rope experts

I agree with Plymouth. Either re-splice a new eye, or put one on the other end. If you don't feel you can do it well enough you can talk to a marina to see if they can, or maybe chat with the local Coast Guard or Coast Guard Auxiliary. They certainly will have someone that can do it.

    Duratrim and WD-40

Any reason why no to use Teak oil. Since your doing the rest of the teak anyway. Probably last longer.

    Towing other Boats

I would agree, but I am not going to modify my boat for this, it is still my primary fishing boat. I am trying to work within the means of what I have.

    Towing other Boats

Thanks for your comments. I thought the rear hooks were stronger than just a tie down for trailering. I'll reach out to Grady. I have a few thousand tows under my belt with the Coast Guard and ties to the local station. They will be giving me the lines for tow work. We are in the Great...

    Towing other Boats

Question for all out there - I am an ex Coasty and will eventually end up using this boat to an extent with the USCG Auxiliary. With that will come some hard work for the boat and quite possibly towing disabled boats out of harms way. Has anyone done this before, if so what do they use for...

    REPLACING BACK SEAT REST

Mine, which of course is older and a different model so it may be totally different, has 2 bolts through the back of the rest through the fiberglass. They used wing nuts on the back. You can just pull the bottom of the seat off and reach up behind it and unscrew the wing nuts. Then off comes...

    Max HP on 20ft Overnighter?

I was out over the weekend in the 1000 Islands and Ran it with 7 People on board and 3/4 tank of gas. It read 43MPH on the paddle wheel speedo. I was impressed with that speed and load.

Gauges not working and overheat warning

Thanks for the info, the steering is Marol and it lists ATF right in the Manual as an acceptable fluid. So I am going to assume it is okay. The only comment was that in very cold weather it will make the steering harder. I'll start looking for a leak. The trim gauge is pegged at full up...

Gauges not working and overheat warning

I have a new to me 1987 206 Overnighter that was fresh water only and is in very good condition. I took it out for a sea trial and saw the water pump was spitting water inconsistently and then got a overheat alarm. I still bought it and immediately took it in for a new pump and engine look...

    Max HP on 20ft Overnighter?

Just a Quick note, I have a 206 Overnighter 1987 with a 200 HP Johnson. 45 MPH is fairly easy to hit with 4 people on board. The boat is rated for 230 HP max. Good luck, you'll have to tell me what issues your boat has to overcome so we can compare notes.
