    control and steering issue

Are you using trim tabs and/or trimming up your motor after you get on plane? I trim my motor up a little when I get on plane to get optimum speed. It almost sounds like your trim tabs are all the way down and its forcing the bow down too much.

    Scupper drain hose

I got replacements at West Marine, I used fuel-rated wire-reinforced line. Black hose w/ red writing. Same hose I used to replace my fuel fill line. Couldn't find it on West online.

    1998 200 HP OX66

I had a1987 200 hp Yam carb'd engine that got approx 20 gph, repowered w/ a 2003 OX66 EFI and get approx 13 gph. So you will lose some fuel efficiency if you go back to a carb. Like Parthery said, harder to start. The issue my 87 had was a non-stainless shift-shaft that rusted out. You...

Big heavy motors on a 94 228 G Tourney and max hp ??

#1 a 228G is a Seafarer. Walk-around style. The Tournament is a bow-rider, correct? Tournament weighs a little less than a Seafarer. 100 extra pounds hanging off the bracket will affect a Tournament more than a Seafarer relative to scuppers. Most Seafarers with big 4-S on them have...

    GELCOAT BLISTERING

a "base coat" is likely primer. Which is fine for boats on lifts or trailers, but a boat in the water should have a barrier coat. I bought my boat used w/ multiple layers of hard epoxy bottom paint. After a few years I had it soda blasted which uncovered probably 2 dozen small blisters...

    GELCOAT BLISTERING

Does your grady have a barrier coat? If its only blistered on the bottom and sides below the waterline, then its not a "gelcoat problem", its water intrusion from osmosis and not the fault of the gelcoat. Gelcoat is porous and not impermeable to water. Any boat left in the water for a...

    Engine Trouble - 2001 Yahama OX66 Saltwater Series 250hp

I don't think 5100 rpms is too slow. My 2002 OX66 tops at about 5200 rpms, but I never go there. Let us know what you find out!

    verado repower

Search for threads with the word "scuppers" and "below the waterline". They are Gradys with 4-S power. Some don't see it as a problem. I found a leftover 2-S OX66 a few years back that I repowered w/. Saved $6K over buying the 4-S Yam. And my scuppers are still above the waterline.

    Battery Switch Wiring Question

If it IS the bilge pump hot wire, then re-run it directly to the battery. Otherwise you're turning off your auto-bilge pump when you turn the battery switch off. (Of course, if you trailer or keep boat on lift, wiring to the switch makes more sense than to the battery terminal.)

    Battery Switch Wiring Question

a number of components (bilge pump, GPS and stereo) have a + wire that should be run directly to the battery terminal (i.e. bypass the ignition switch as well as battery switch). Maybe someone thought they were being smart by installing it to the switch and not the battery terminal. Is this a...

define 'odd smell' for us a little better. Musty/moldy smell, dead mouse smell, rotten egg smell, dirt smell.

    Speed on a 226 Seafarer

What does she do at cruising speed? Personally I never run WOT, but have tested my 228 to 5200 rpms on my 2003 OX66 200hp. I normally run 3800-4200rpms and get approx 29-31 mph. how old is the boat?

    Kicker question

I ditched mine for the reason finatic said. On the Chesapeake, during trolling season, its rarely flat calm, and in any cross-wind or waves, the kicker would barely keep the bow straight, much less making any headway. If you're offshore any distance, with any current, forget about using a...

why respace engines when repowering from 2 stroke to 4 strok

Re: why respace engines when repowering from 2 stroke to 4 s I thought it was b/c the cowling was bigger so they needed to be spread out more to allow full turning.

    Battery Charger concerns...

depends if its a "battery charger" or a "maintanence/trickle charger" A maintanence charger will charge the battery, then when battery is full it swicthes off. A normal battery charger that your dad used to slap on the old Ford will fry your battery if left on for long periods b/c it doesn't...

    Which Seafarer to choose????

I have an 88 Seafarer and will admit that it can be a wet ride in a cross-wind but it cuts thru chop well. I think the SeaV2 hull is dryer ride and more stable when at anchor. I don't know if its worth it b/c I've never ridden on a SeaV2 hull, but I can say the pre-SeaV2 hulls aren't bad...

    Which Seafarer to choose????

I respectfully disagree. The worst thing in the world for a 2-stroke is to not be used. An 11 year old engine with few hours is much closer to a blown piston than one that's been run every other day for 11 years. Its almost 'anti-biological' in concept. This is failry common knowledge when...

    Which Seafarer to choose????

Depending on condition of #2 (transom and stringer inspection) I'd say that's by far the best value. Almost brand new ETEC and a trailer. The SeaV2 hull is a bonus, but with an 11 y.o engine w/ unknown hours, no trailer, and $2K more than option #2, you may be faced w/ a repower soon after...
