    Winter cover time

GW204 is correct, they are not light by any means. You will DEFINITEY need at least another person to install the canvas cover.

    Winter cover time

You may get some help here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12767 As stated, I am very happy with my Fisher Canvas. Not cheap, but worth it to me in the long haul. Many boats here in NJ use them, I have seen them in pretty good shape after ten years.

    2006 Marlin Prop Choices

I am considering replacing my existing Yamaha 15-1/4 x 19 Saltwater Series II propellers. Both require minor repairs (one is slightly bent and one just got nicked this weekend). Based on my reading the Mercury Revolution four blade props may be my best choice. I am not that concerned with top...

    Canyon Role Call!!!

Spent the night at the East Elbow of the Hudson and got two roughly 55lb YFT on sardines. Trolling the area produced a ~27" YFT that was released and a 12lb. mahi. The rest of the day was slow. We were happy with the results, especially since it was my son (15), his buddy and myself. They...

    1995 Explorer Anchor Handling

I rarely anchor, but when we do I use one of these (not necessarily this brand): http://www.anchorpullers.com/ Works pretty good.

    Issues with new-to-me 93 Gulfstream

I spent a lot of time on a 2000 Gulfstream with a single Yamaha 225 2 stroke. The boat appeared to have similar problems as you just encountered. First thing the owner did was increase the size of the tabs from 12w x 9? to 18w x 12. This helped out tremendously in keeping the bow down in...

How many Grady owners carry a Sea Anchor

I have not used a drift sock or a sea anchor, nor do I carry one - yet. I am curious Wahoo/Rob please tell me (and the rest of us) about raising the engine when using your drift sock. I assume the engine causes some negative effect on keeping the bow into the wind? In other words what...

    Yamaha Dead!

I have not touched my previous 92 225 Yamaha in over ten years, but I believe there is a fuse on your outboard engine. If memory serves me correctly, it is on the stbd. side of the engine block, a few inches above where the shift and throttle cables conncect to the engine. I believe the wiring...

What size shaft on grady 24?

I would try to get a 25" shaft or convert yours over to 25". Not an easy job to do and not cheap either. I'm sure others will chime in when they get some time.

What size shaft on grady 24?

I have never tried using a 30" shaft on a transom designed for a 25", so take what I write with a grain of salt. I think your cavitation plate will be so low in the water while on plane that the engine will perform poorly. I'd be willing to bet that with the 30" shaft, the lower unit will...

What size shaft on grady 24?

Do you have a transom mount or a Grady Drive?

What size shaft on grady 24?

I had a 1988 24' Offshore with a cutout transom, 25" shaft. I had a 19992 24' Explorer with bracket, 25" shaft. My guess is that your boat is also requires a 25" shaft. You can go to the Grady site and look it up, I think they listed the shaft length in the catalog.

buying boat, travel to marina or not???

I am a pretty handy guy and prefer to see things for myself, along with the experts (marine outboard engine mechanic and surveyor). I can't see myself spending roughly $100K on a used boat and not seeing it with my own eyes first. I urge you to spend the time and money. You may learn things...

    In hull transducer location

I installed a M260 on my 06 Marlin on the starboard side, approximately 24 inches from the transom (no generator) in between the stringers. I am pleased with the results after one year (this includes a few canyon runs). I also asked for opinions on this board and another board, a few people...

    5/18/2010 - point sur 3 x 19 + 54

Looks like you were able to keep your crew very busy. Did they at least offer to let you reel one in? Or were you 'only' the photographer, captain, detailer, tackle guy, mate, delivery guy, reel repairman, boat owner, gasoline provider, and taxi service? Maybe the crew bought you McDonalds...

Seeking Advise on 1989 Marlin 30

Not sure this heps or not, but this is a start: As far as I know Yamaha only make the 250 in HPDI in 2004. I have not heard good things about this specific model of engine. I urge you to have the boat professionally surveyed, yes it will cost you some money, but it could end up saving you...

Somers Point Marina in South NJ

30 Marlin, I have dealt with most Grady dealers in the state over the last thirteen years(including the ones mentioned in this post). Although most are closer for me (I'm in Union County) Somers Point still gets my vote. Prices are as good as I have found (for a dealer), they will give you a...

GW's, Yamahas, Generators and Oil filled water...

I am just guessing here but I suspect the oil is "only" sitting on the surface. I have not read much on the subject, but have seen oil slicks many times (small scale) and the oil typically only is about 1/8" thick at worst. With crude maybe it is 1/2" thick I assume. I suspect the larger...
