I am considering replacing my existing Yamaha 15-1/4 x 19 Saltwater Series II propellers. Both require minor repairs (one is slightly bent and one just got nicked this weekend). Based on my reading the Mercury Revolution four blade props may be my best choice. I am not that concerned with top end speed, but mid-range economy and performance on those long runs offshore are my biggest concern.

Here are the numbers with my current setup:
WOT: light load 6100RPM at 46.5mph ~43gph
WOT: heavy load 5700RPM at 42mph ~43gph (this is approximate)
Cruise: average load 4200RPM at 30mph ~21gph

I am glad to be able to cruise at 3800 to 4800 RPM (approx. 25 to 35 mph) and still get decent fuel econcomy, about 1.2 to 1.4 statute MPG. Once in a while with a light load and perfect conditions I can get as good as 1.5 statute MPG.

In a perfect world I'm hoping to cruise with a heavy load in flat seas and get 1.5MPG. Realistically, I think I may be able to increase my MPG by one tenth with the ideal prop (in other words 1.3 would become 1.4mpg). Not sure what the ideal prop is though...

Please share your thoughts.

Tuna Man, I have a 1998 sailfish with f225 4strokes, I messed around with 19", and 17" 3 blade yammie props, I also tried the 4 blade 17" merc rev 4 props in which i stayed with. i like the bite of the 4 blade props especially runnin in the ocean, The props do not cavitate like the 3 bladers do at times of lower 3200 to 3600 rpms. I found overall performance the same, mid 40's speed and cruise 25 to 30 mph 3800 to 4400 rpms, economy with my setup 1.5 to 1.7 statute miles per gallon, any specifics, please send me a PM.
