    Trailer Question

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the members here. Second, welcome to the site. I have a Venture trailer for my boat and has drain holes in both axle beam at the lowest points. In my opinion it is a good idea to drill holes if none exist. I had a trailer fail because there were no...

    furuno electronics

I currently have Furuno electronics on my boat and I agree they are not the most user friendly. My employer is a Garmin dealer and I get dealer pricing for anything I buy. Shipping is 8 bucks to my door direct from Garmin and their customer service is outstanding. When my electronics go I am...

    265 repower questions

Did you hang the engines yet? I can check my Chase this weekend when I pull the boat for the winter. I am not sure it will be the same but I can tell you which holes the dealer used. What length shafts are they? Mine are 25". That would be something to consider. I can also give you the size of...

    factory horn

Sweet, thanks guys. I'll check them out. The last thing I want to do is drill more holes. Ideally I can use the existing mounting provisions even if the horn is different.

    factory horn

Anyone know who made the horn on the 2000 Chase (and probably other models) and if it is still available? If not available what have you guys done? Thanks in advance as always.

    1983 Grady 190 with a 470 IO opinions

Moore, very good point about the cam seals. I forgot about those. You can tell if they are failing by the weep hole in the water pump impeller housing. The another issue is parts are a bit pricey. The block is manufactured by mercury marine and the head is from a Ford 460 with a hose fitting...

    1983 Grady 190 with a 470 IO opinions

The switch from 3" to 4" is the heat exchanger not the manifold. If it has the conversion for the alternator and the points to electronic ignition the only other major worry with the engine is the aluminum exhaust manifold to the cast iron riser/reservior. This is were the failure takes place...

winter prep: full tank of gas or just above empty?

I will add this to the conversation: Although I haven't had any problems leaving the tank less than full I see some replys about condensation and winter temps. I can tell you I have been under my cover in the winter with outside temps at 38-45 degrees, sometimes less but with the sun shining...

winter prep: full tank of gas or just above empty?

I have stored both ways. Full and less than full. Never a problem. Always use Startron, nothing else for fuel (valvtec for carbon). I do prefer a full tank over less for the same reasons others have mentioned- fuel prices. Good luck.

    Trolling spread

Thankss for the tip. If the 114s are the metal spools and on rods I may be interested. I have plenty of 30s but would think they 'd sell quick if you post them here or on the hull truth or Craigslist. Grog, maybe I'll see you out there next season. (boat name: Propwash) Thanks for the offer. Ed

    Trolling spread

What model is your boat? I have Top Guns so I will put two 30s on the riggers and the 50 as you say way back. I can use either the 30s or senators for the flat lines depending on reports and what is showing up on the sounder. Thanks for the feedback!

    Trolling spread

Hi guys, Just wondering what you folks use/prefer in your spreads? What types of rod/reel combos? I am on a budget and have been buying some used equipment when I see good prices. Currently I have 3 Penn 30's single speeds(two on full roller tuna sticks, one on a Penn mariner), 1 Penn 50 two...

    Battery Drain

How about a short in the power trim system? Is it wired directly to the battery? It shouldn't be but who knows what others have done. I would also check GPS antenna. If wired directly to the battery or through a hot lead it will draw the battery down in a hurry. Ed

    Hull Thickness?

Even if there is no visible damage there may still be damage under the surface. A quick and easy way for the boat owner to know is by doing a Tap Test. They make special aluminum hammers for the tests but you can use a quarter or Half Dollar. Lightly tap in the area of impact and the surrounding...

Labor Day Weekend Plans...lets hear them

May not sound like fun but I have been battling an idle problem all season on my port engine. The thing purrs like a kitten at upper RPMs but stalls and surges at idle and low RPMS. I have been through the engine swapping parts and troubleshooting. Tonight after reading the shop manual last...
