    2000 226 Hull stripes question

I have taken strips off old boats but have never replaced it. The hull stripes are available but the GW dealing may not be - check with a GW dealer. I have tried removing the strips and decals a lot of ways. 3M eraser wheel, razor blades. The best way I have found is to use a Dremel tool and...

New trailer has odd tire wear?

I tow my 268 Islander to Florida Keys and back every winter since 2008. About 8,000 lbs including the trailer. About 3,000 miles - similar to your one-way trip. First few years were with an old 3-axel trailer. Last 11 years were with a new Sea Lion S-28T-8200BB 2-axel trailer. The new trailer...

Battery Charger to stay away from or REMOVE ASAP

Never heard of a PowerMania. Looks like a good one to stay away from! When I first read your post I thought you were talking about ProMariner which is an excellent brand I use and recommend.

    Boarded by the CG

CG Aux will do an annual courtesy inspection and give you a sticker for your boat. As long as you're not doing something stupid they will bypass you. This is helpful in areas where they are doing a lot of checks.

    Adding rod holders to cabin

I don't know how your boat is setup. My 268 Islander is a walk around with a small cabin. These photos are return trip from FL so some have no reels. I have 6 rod holders that I double up with velcro straps on the Port side. I have two on the starboard side. Two short kite rods up there as well...

    express 265 prop question

I don't track fuel economy. I don't do long canyon runs where you can really measure it. I doubt it's significant and may be better than not turning the props efficiently. As I said it was a game changer.

    express 265 prop question

Other than making sure you can turn the props at maximum rated RPM's WOT speed is an imaginary number. Ignore it and prop the boat to respond from the hole shot, thru initial planning to high cruise. Copy of previous post...I have been running a 268 Islander with twin Yamaha f-150's with 17 x...

    express 265 prop question

Get your numbers together (speed at different RPM's) and talk to Ken at www.PropGods.com He sized the new 4-blade props for my Islander with Yamaha F150's. We went down 2" of pitch and slightly smaller diameter. Got a mid-range that I never had before and didn't loose any top end. Game...

    Battery charger

A ProMariner ProSport HD 2-bank is $180. You can also install a Noco 2-bank for around $120. Both chargers ship with cables that make it easy to install. Not sure but both may have 120vac power plugs. Mount in a reasonably dry area near the batteries (within cable lengths. Also nice to be able...

    Express 265 Epirb location.

Think about he practical aspects of saving your life on a small boat with an inexperienced crew. On my boat I probably have one inexperienced person on board (my wife). I'll take care of grabbing the EPIRB and deploying - only takes seconds. Hopefully the other person can grab life jackets and...

Freedom 225 2014 Engine Bracket Paint

I refinished my complete tower, rocket launcher and enclosure awning rails Summer '22. All parts removed and sandblasted. It's all about the prep and materials. Edge seal important - that's where it will pop first. Awlgrip etch primer, Awlgrip Primer and AwlGrip topcoat. Three Winters in FL...

Replaced hatch covers with Starboard - lessons learned

GW hatches are junk. I think they use sand from the parking lot mixed with resin as a filler. It's hard and brittle. I made molds for my anchor locker and aft storage box and build new hatches with Coosa board. The aft storage box is topped with Starboard cutting board.

    Transom scupper

Don't worry it's a standard size. The problem with standards is that there are so many different ones to choose from! I went thru this two years ago when I wanted to replace my scupper valves. They vary slightly in diameter and hole placement. Event though they have 4 holes they won't line up...

    Gel Coat Stress Cracks

My gunnel stress crack are spider cracks at point of impact on dock. Yours may be the same. Your long stress cracks look like stress under heavy sea conditions. Flexing of the hull and weight of hardtop if you have one. Hard to tell from closeup photos.

My question is "Do you have any way to access the back of that fitting to change it?". I know on my boat it is accessible thru a hatch but impossible to work on.

It's not that complicated. Hopefully someone who owns the same boat can give you some insight. Maybe you can get a camera behind it for a picture. I know what you are looking for.
