Marlin 300 - Leaky Deck Drawer = Water in Forward Keel Area

How much fuel did you have on board. My marlin sits bow low almost always, but the pump is still usually the low point. Also I make sure to empty my main (forward) tank before my aux (rear) tank. The boat runs better and feels more balanced. All my bilge water finds its way forward and I...

New to Boating ; Safety Question

Not a run for the non experienced boater. I'd suggest a capatin or someone who runs those waters often. I've heard the "ICW" through NJ is a Pain and the outter route better. I'm sure someone here can confirm. If the boat was bought sans electronics and you plan on dead reckoning...

Recovering the 208 Single-Handedly at the Dock

As a former parking lot trailer only boater, I can say guides are the best under $100 any short handed trailer boater can spend. I prefer guide on rollers not the cheesy poles, but any guide that keeps you from fighting the back and running forward to winch is huge, especially when waves beat...

Adding a Tower to a Marlin

Tide runners ladder set-up is much nicer and looks much more incorporated in the overall design of the tower. Except his entire hardtop set-up does not look like a factory set-up, so I'm not sure how much was replaced to get to that nice a job. As for the pitch and roll at anchor, the boat is...

    SPOT LIGHTS /new 275

The best location IMO for a forward facing light is on the bow railing or the pulpit. I have seen a few in these locations and always thought how bad they looked but how good they probably worked. I think on top will always produce glare unless you get far enough back the the light could never...

    Gelcoat Sanding, Polishing, an Waxing

Here is the most tried and true method after professionally detailing boats and cars for many years. The auto version of all the 3-M is far cheaper and cuts the same as the marine versions. If you have a noticable color difference from removal of stickers start with 800 wet, go to 1000...

New dash panel for a '91 Tournament

Very nice job and very professional looking. Where did you get the panel and what thickness did you go with. Is it real CF or fake. If it is fake, its a pretty good fake. jh

looking for the a dummies guide to wiring

I sort of agree with plymouth. I try and avoid butt splices at all costs, If I do need one (bilge pumps) I spring for the heat shrink. As far the the shrink ends, Spend the money on the tinned wire so you can use a standard tinned connector, You'll never have problem. The prices on tinned...

    vinyl help needed

As a warning, it is likely tacky due to a solvent used in cleaning at some point. It is best to stick with soap and water on the new one as solvents can chemically alter the plastisizers which makes the finish unrestorable. I'd hang onto the old one and try a paint from an autoparts place...

Adding a Tower to a Marlin

These pics may not be that great as they are from when I bought the boat. I'll try and get better shots of the mounts if you are still serious about this project.

Adding a Tower to a Marlin

To add to what mega said. When on my tower you do not stand on the hardtop. The tie ins for the tower land direct over pipework and there is a platform that you stand on as part of the tower assembly. I've stood on my hardtop and it is pretty solid, but not for all the weight of the tower...

Adding a Tower to a Marlin

I just took mine off. I hated everything about it. Being on the bay it was no good to me anyway. I picked up about 2knts and 4gph at cruise without it. It makse the boat very unstable in a quartering sea and added allot of bow steer. I had contemplated selling mine, but probably will just...

    Electronic instalation

Since you did not get any replies, you may want to try it yourself. The instructions that come with most electronics are very good. I'd be more than happy to walk you through any questions as you go through the install, as would a few others here. jh

    Replacing batteries, any suggestions?

My suggestion is two starting and one deep. Get the biggest deep cycle you can fit and carry the weight of. Grp 31 is probably best for your boat.

    helm seats

I did exactly as Catch 22 stated with the Boatersworld deal. I had Pompanettes and the slides would not move over so I had to get a new set. I got a pair from Ebay for $55 delivered in the fall. I have not mounted the seats yet, but will in about 1 week. With all the yard dirt I'm waiting...

    Boat Lettering

after your boat is waxed you can take a wax pencil and sketch on the side and wipe it off to gauge. I've also boxed out areas with painters tape to get a sense of size. Of course you'll need to use a good wax remover before you apply the name and then rewax. jh

    What all-around light with Radar

I've searched high and low and can not seem to find a new anchor light to put on the hard top. The old light was a little stubby that mounted on the tower. The tower is staying off the boat for good so I need an anchor light that is at least 24" (open array is about 20" tall with wedge)...
