    Dual Battery Setup Question

Most builders do this because it is cheaper and understandable to the average joe. My BEP set-up blows the doors off my old isolator set-up and no switches to screw with all day long. I have found myself on the business end of plenty of jumper cables for boaters that forget and leave the...

Getting the Lead out- Davis Fish Seeker?

Has anyone used the Davis Fish Seeker for trolling? My wife has forever been against the sheer volume of lead kept on the boat with two young children (4 months and 2.5yrs). Has anyone used this contraption and does it work? Is it a fair replacement for the assortment of cigar weights I'm...

    Fuel tank selector valves

Two tanks, two motors, four options. Engine 1 on main tank or aux tank Engine 2 on main tank or aux tank My main is forward my aux is aft. I drain the front then the back. A full front and empty back lead to a bow down attitude and lots of bow steer. I generally run off the same tank for...

    Dual Battery Setup Question

I prefer the dedicated house battery as suggested. It keeps the engine start seperate and isolated and keeps all my electronics from rebooting when I jump from one spot to the next by starting another motor.

    Anti-fouling on engine mounts

DO NOT Use regular bottom paint. The previous owners yard of my rig was a dolt and used copper paint and the backets both look horrible and are pitted with corrosion. jh

    Dual Battery Setup Question

Caution, Isolators are not always the best solution since they do not allow a full charge. The typical isolator will lose 0.5-0.7 volts across it, thus if your shooting for a 14.2V charge, a 13.5V-13.7V may be all that the battery sees. the better alternative is to install a charging relay...

Marlin fuel burn with 225/250 four strokes

Both the house and senate versions of the bill failed to pass last time they were up to vote, so us poor schmucks in MD keep paying road tax for our boats with no refund.

Marlin fuel burn with 225/250 four strokes

Thanks, to everyone who posted. This is anywhere from 0.3-0.5 improvement over my current fuel use. I probably burned 700g last season. So If I could improve that by roughly .4mpg (~40%), that would generate roughly a 280 gallon savings on last years fuel burn. If this season we hit...

Marlin fuel burn with 225/250 four strokes

What fuel numbers are people getting with 225 or 250 four stroke motors on a Marlin? I've been a diehard 2 stroke fan, but the price of oil has me reconsidering since the new 2 cycle motors are very picky about oil. My neighbor is paying $40/gal for Evinrude XD100 and averaging about a...

Fuel Management - Yamaha or After Market?

My floscan on a 100gallons will be accurate within 3 gallons. It sure is nice when you fill up to know you need to back off the fill when you hit say 83 of the 85 gallons the gauge says you burned. I like my floscan, except I can't see it being anything more than a very depressing...

Who Sells Aluminum Trailers With Rollers??

Ditto on the Venture. I had a VART4700, one of the first when they wanted to enter the aluminum market. It was a POS and looked like a 5 year old trailer after one season. Same experience with the customer service. I sent emails and phone calls on grease and no response. The fexible lines...

How does your 30' and up Grady White Ride ?

My boat had bow steer problems with the tower installed. I have removed the tower and it is like I bought a new boat. That 150 or so lbs that high and forward made the boat ride terrible. I picked up 4- knts at 4k tach and dropped 6-8gph. The ride is phenominal now. I would expect that...

    repairing chips and gouges

So $50/ft to get a boat back to factory condition (no barrier or bottom paint)? After 20 years of racing sailboats (seven years detailing boats too) and going after slick fast bottoms where every imperfection counts, I'm certain that you are on the wrong track. Awlgrip chips and scratches just...

    KVH Autocomp 1000

I went through several of them on a racing sailboat hooked to a KVH sailcomp. They are VERY fragile and DO NOT LET IT GET WET. Do not spike it with DC (engine starting). I think it was the biggest POS electronics equipment especially from a company that does Military spec equipment. We...
