Thanks Richie Rich - I didn't know 5200 yellowed in UV...although I am in the Pac NW and I trailer my boat so UV damage is really not a problem :) I was asking more along the lines of adhesive qualities as well...my understanding is that 4200 is not as "permanent" as 5200...and on...

I'm replacing some thru hulls (both at and above waterline). I'm using stainless on the uppers and bronze on the lowers. What compound should I use to bed and seal them? Since they are bronze and stainless, I"m thinking they won't need replacement for a long time.... Should I use 5200 or...

Well, I figured it out....the stuff I bought that I thought was for waste is actually a high grade bilge hose: Vac Extra Heavy Duty/FDA - Series 148 - This stuff is way more sturdy than the stock bilge hose Grady puts in...The Teleflex site says this is excellent for bilge pump...

Also - why should I not use the white sanitation hose for other purposes-- such as a bilge pump? The only other hose available for the bilge pump was the same corrugated crap that was in there and had crumbled.....

Thanks for the info! I ended up tearing into the boat today-- the first full day I had her (my birthday too!). The two plastic thru-hulls that had visible cracks inside broke off with little force. One was the aft bilge (the hose was awfully weak too) and one was for the starboard fishbox...

My marine electrician is going to use the Blue Seas system - he's going to wire the electronics directly to the house as well as the kicker, and going to wire the main to the starter....when the main is running, it will use the ACR and charge the start and then the house....kicker will charge...

Bdevlin - Call Danny at Grady customer service- he can e-mail you their specs for your boat, including the placement of thru-hulls and the grady PN and corresponding attwood or perko or whatever part number. Grady customer service is absolutely fabulous....even to owners of old boats...

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually going to have a marine electrician help me out to make sure I've got everything set up....I agree, the extra expense now is worth the security of having good connections and no failures when I'm in bad weather and water is dripping down there.

Damn lucky yoy grt to crab all year round....we usually only get July through September in the San Juans...... But....spot prawns start up in May-- which are the sweetest shellfish I've ever had-- sweeter than the best Maine Lobstah....

Good question! I say run away - to me, pre-mix is a pain and very inaccurate-- particularly when trying to pre-mix 150 gallons of fuel. Also, if you ever want to switch to an oil injected or 4 stroke, you'll probably have to get new tanks and fuel lines. There are so many deals out there...
