    4 killed in boating accident

This accident sounds to me very similar to the Grady that capsized in the Chesapeake on 12/30 (search this forum for details). In that instance something let water into the hull while underway and when they stopped the boat capsized very quickly. Part of all mariner training talks about paying...

    Washdown Pump - ongoing issue

Anyone know enough about electrical motors to say if this problem could be caused by unregulated voltage?

    4 killed in boating accident

Lundinroof, let's get busy on those bilge light switches we've been discussing. It seems to me that they might have prevented this tragedy.

    Seat cushion

I would guess the seat is a Pompano. Call them directly and tell them what you need. BTW, they won't sell to you if it's going on a GW, they'll say to go through your dealer which triples the price. All the things I bought went on my Mako ;).

    Onboard "must have" list

Paper charts or a chart book for everyplace you go, a compass in good working order, and a deviation table filled out specifically for your boat. If your electronics fail, having these three items and knowing how to use them will get you home safely.

    Mariners learning systems?

Haven't heard of them but I recommend you check in with this guy before deciding on a course. He's pretty flexible with his courses. Capt. Greg Metcalf, (401) 617-9265 or email: greg@captaingregmetcalf.com

Bilge Switch Light (High Water Alarm?)

Ed, I'm perplexed by your description of the auto float switch energizing the entire panel. That doesn't happen on my boat, and not sure why it would happen on yours. I'd like to hear more about it. My charter web site is http://www.dafishing.com. Thanks for asking. Larry

Water in cabin - Grady 360

Pablor, I had a similar problem in my boat. Anytime we were in a head sea large enough to bring spray over the bow the cabin would get soaked, After two years of trying different solutions my dealer finally resealed the entire hull-to-deck joint under the rub rail and installed a new run...

Bilge Switch Light (High Water Alarm?)

Enough Already: On my boat the switch light comes on whenever the float switch is activated, even when the bilge switch is in the "off" position. It's the OEM switch that came from Grady.

Bilge Switch Light (High Water Alarm?)

Rather than a "Y" off the float switch why not a "Y" off the bilge switch already on the dash? On my boat there is a light inside each bilge rocker switch that comes on when the float switch is activated. I figured to just jump off of that. Any reason not to? Or are the switches on your boat...

Bilge Switch Light (High Water Alarm?)

Tim, I remember reading that story, certainly was an eye opener. The independent HWA seems like the safest way to go because you'd REALLY want to know there's water in the bilge if the float switch fails. The big school bell is neat too because others at the dock would hear it if it happened...

Bilge Switch Light (High Water Alarm?)

Hi folks! Reading about the Grady that capsized recently in the Chesapeake got me to thinking about another post I read on this site last year. Someone made a comment about adding some red LEDs to the dash in the helm area that would signal whenever the bilge pumps automatically came on...

    boating courses

Consider taking a USCG captain's course. For about $750 and once a week classes for a few months you can learn just about everything possible without shipping out. Even if you don't apply for your license the education is very satisfying and a real confidence builder. Plus, you get to spend...

    PLanning for weekend get-a-way's

I don't have any suggestions for Boston, hopefully someone else will chime in. BTW, I think $7 is about the rate we paid in Nantucket, so that may not be out of line for Boston.

    PLanning for weekend get-a-way's

We pulled in to check the place out a couple of summers ago. Very crowded, very tight, very busy (unhelpful) staff. We left and wound up at the Marblehead town dock which is awesome.

GW360 Hull - Deck Seam Split

I agree with the advice to call your insurance agent before attempting any repairs. They can deny your claim if they are unable to see the original state of things or if they are denied the right to direct the cure.

    PLanning for weekend get-a-way's

From our experience cruising the Northeast, moving South to North: 1. There's only one choice in Nantucket - the Boat Basin. Very nice, very upscale, very expensive. 2. The Black Dog on MV is OK, walking distance to most things, expensive. 3. The town dock at Marblehead is awesome, very...
