More Kicker Questions for a 228 (or larger)

Ok, I had my 228 listed for sale but when it came down to selling her....I just couldn't do it. I reeeeally enjoy this boat and didn't realize just how much the family wanted to keep her either. No one spoke up very much till' buyers started getting serious. But the reason was to move up to a...

Flush mounting electronics on a seafarer

I have an 08' 228 with 2 HDS-8's and considered flush mounting each along with a variety of methods finally electing to mount each with their bracket inside the boxes. One is in the box at the helm and the other on the port side radio box above and have been very satisfied with the set up. I...

    what truck to buy?

I drag a 228 all over with my 01' Tundra. At 156,000 miles and 11 years old, I can honestly say I have no desire to buy a new truck. The thing still hauls and drives like new. The ONLY issues I've had has been a couple of check engine lights and 02 sensors which do irritate me a bit. But...

what h.p.2 repower seafarer outboard on bracket

My Yamaha F250TXR does an excellent job all the way around but wouldn't want to go with less. The new ones are rated 300hp which, IMHO, would be as near perfect as could be. But mine is only rated for 250 hp so that's the limit.

    Kicker size for 228??

I know there have been many posts on the subject but like many things, there have been quite a few improvements over the past few years. Now that I'm over the 2' itis' and plan on keeping my 228 for many, many years to come, I wouldn't mind setting up a kicker for a number of reasons, one being...

    Recomdations for Hand Held VHF

HX851 here too. It's good enough many times I'll use it rather than the fixed base unit.

    more confused then ever

I'm not 100% sure I understand the question but can say what I have works very well. I have 2 Lowrance HDS-8's that are connected together via ethernet. Within the system is radar, structure scan, a rate compass and an extra transducer. Either display can work with or independent of the...

Grady White Craziness on the Hull Truth...

I think there's really just a few that persist in slamming GW where/when they can. But it's still hard to let it go when they outright lie. I bought my 228 nearly 2 years ago and "fully" understand why so many people stay Grady once they own the 1st one. I had a non-boater onboard a few weeks...

    Grady/Yamaha combo

Beyond the answers above, I just found my trim arm stiff (under the steering cylinder). I think it was from someone using the wrong lubricant. But I cleaned it up and it works perfect now. You've got 2 awesome boats to use; I have an 08' 228 and can't say enough good about it! If I moved up...

    Sloppy hydraulic steering

X2, if you didn't do this to start with, you didn't bleed the system. Follow this link for your model's manual and it'll have a diagram explaining how to properly bleed the system: http://www.teleflexmarine.com/support-2/installation-manuals-controls-cables/installation-manuals/

    Grady drive inspection?

People that tell stories dis-like details. If it were me, I would want to know specifically what made him think it could fall off?? And don't stop with that and let him off easy. Stay determined to get the detail that alerted him to such a fault. If he has a point, I would probably get a 2nd...

    Lowrance 3G/4G Radar, HDS 10?

I've been using the predecessor, BR24, and am very pleased. My experience is you won't see birds but boats within 5 or so miles show up fine. The real value is close-in navigation. Mine has shown small buoy markers literally right off the bow; jet ski's are a concern here and they show up...

    new owner '08 marlin

I haven't seen the other pics but did add a shade option to my 228 last year which is as close to perfect as can be. I had them build it at just the right size that I can fish without interference. Everyone used to gravitate towards the helm before this but no more. It folds down when the...

please help-best price on 2 stroke yamalube ?

I normally find the best price 4 stroke oil (same for 2 stroke oil) via the internet by searching google or yahoo "shopping." Then print and price match at west marine. Sometimes I just order online if it's not needed right away.

    1990 Seafarer mods

Others more knowledgeable will chime in but take it from a guy that deals in structural repairs, I would probably support that removed material in some way before taking her out again.

Repair shop blew engine on sea trial after "fixing it" with

Re: Repair shop blew engine on sea trial after "fixing it" w Their current best method to get through this is probably to rough the explanation over a bit and hope you accept the glossed over version. If it were me, I would be all over it finding out every intricate detail and how it blew...

Cover for entire boat with Hard Top

I'll try to get around to posting a picture of mine. I had one custom made for my 228 several months ago and because I enjoy working on it often, I had them put a zippered access area for the cockpit. So the entire boat stays covered but in 5 minutes or less, I can open the rear deck and helm...

Need Education on Trim Tabs in Chop

Great posts above. I start out trimming the engine till' it sounds stress free. Then tab the keel down till' it rides best, then re-adjust engine trim accordingly.

Which is best method to flush engines?

Thanks for that rundown. And it makes perfect sense; I wish Yamaha would put that in the manual so we could understand how this flushing business got to where it is today with all the confusion.
