How do I remove cockpit bolsters, etc?

2001 Marlin and it's time to recover the bolsters. I'm pretty sure that there are some screws on the bottom of the bolsters but what do I do when I get them out? How do I remove the curved bench seat seatback cushion? Transom door bolster? How about re-mounting them afterwards? Any tricks or...

Need new Tach on '99 Sailfish Yam 225 OX66

You must first upload your photos to an online web hosting site like Photobucket.com. Once they are there, you copy the web link to THAT photo by to the the IMG box right above any posting/reply box where you type in your posts. It just takes some practice...... You might want to search around...

    Auto Pilot

I used to hand-slog it over to Bimini and beyond in sloppy seas with the 1994 252 Sailfish and when we moved up to the 2001 Marlin I spent a LOT of time researching exactly what A/P would be best for my needs as well as working well with the boat..... to the point of calling Simrad and talking...

    Grand Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

I usually run over and back to the Bahamas with the aft Bimini out/deployed, but I honestly forget about putting it back out before we left Grand Cay until we were half way home! Plus, we were hoping to stop and fish in the Gulf Stream if we ran into any weedlines, etc. I try to hose off the...

    Marlin- Waste disposal

Your boat's Manual will have detailed directions on how to empty the tank. Don't forget that most fuel docks can pump you empty. Open the access hole on your port walkway, stick the nozzle in and have them turn the machine on. When the clear hose shows nothing left passing through, have them...

Need new Tach on '99 Sailfish Yam 225 OX66

I just went through a tach swap myself on an OX-66. You'll find the best price by ordering an entire rigging kit for about $269 from the nice folks at http://www.simyamaha.com. If you buy the tach alone, it's gonna be in the $350 range....... go figure! My new tach hooked right up and I had...

    Grand Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

We ran the 120 miles over to Grand Cay in the Abacos in the far north of the Bahamas from our home dock in Ft Lauderdale for the long Memorial Day weekend. This map shows West End where we stopped to clear Customs, re-fuel and have a great lunch of fresh conch down at the local beach...

    255 with 300 hp Yamaha

    1) Let the wind/current be your "friend". Use it to help you control the boat. 2) Never approach a dock/piling faster than you are willing to hit it......... go slow! 3) Have your crew "ready" with lines attached to the boat and boat hook(s) in hand. 4) Before you attempt to dock, size up the...

    UPDATING 30' MARLIN ELECTRONICS

I put a Furuno NavNet w/radar on my 2001 Marlin and LOVE it but that's well beyond your budget. However, I agree that a radar is far more than just for birds. Mine helps with weather/storms avoidance, potential collision avoidance with other boats (it will paint two guys is a 12' jon boat) and...

Recs to buy a new Yammie Tach?

As a follow-up, I took the new tach out to the boat, flopped the cabin access panel down and started eyeballing the wiring of the new tach to the wires coming out of the original tach and it was "different"! I called the guy back to notify that he'd sent me the wrong tach and he assured me that...

    Marlin- Waste disposal

Actually, I pulled the macerator out last month to clean and repair it and it was not a bad job at all. That's probably because I stay on top of the cleanliness by flushing it (often) with fresh water, using the blue deodarant stuff, everyone using the home bathroom before we shove off, etc...

    Marlin- Waste disposal

If you can hear the pump running, it probably is. It's possible that the quantity indicator is just stuck....as mine probably is as well. When I pump it out offshore, I close the cabin door so that I can hear the pump running. When it starts to "grind" a bit louder, I assume that the tank's...

    Sailfish 272 Engines and Electronics

You might consider removing the lower electronics doors and flushmounting the new stuff. I did that on my Marlin and I love it! On my 1994 Sailfish, the stuff was inside the box but I was very limited as to what I could buy and put in there. Flush mounting will give you many more options as to...
