Sorry, could not figure out search...looking to replace my existing classic gunnel rod holders...what are folks using? I am partial to Rupp, Lee or Gemlux...thoughts? I bought some classics off of ebay a couple of years ago and as expected junk.
Good questions...I am not a whaler fan since they were purchased by brunswick...and you can only power with Mercs....i still own an 18 dauntless i bought in 98 or so amd love it.....robalo is a bit lower on the quality scale but take a look at edgewater too...sea hunt is a good buy as...
Kinda interesting...I have a 2002 273 Chase with F225's and owned since new.....never had the corrosion issue...one of the motors threw a rod in 2018 with 1800 hours running 4000 rpm offshore..hole in the side of the block..
Repowered with Zuke and did not look back.

Great question and some good thoughts here..beam to length ratio is extremely important and frankly, Grady boats a generally too beamy. I actually think my 273 Chase is one of the best riding gradys at 8 6...Those big beamy 33s get it done with mass...that is why the regs, sea vees and such are...
I would be more worried about the rod holder itself...I would just run it off the cleat. I run 2 dredges off cleats...and 2 teasers off the riggers...and 7 rods...so I do not use planers..
Welp, after 20 years offshore dragging coolers and Fishing it was time to work on the deck non skid...I debated the Sea Deck but decided to redo with awlgrip...should be done this week and I will send pics....
I just debated this on my 273 Chase and decided to redo the non skid...I mainly fish offshore so we have fish hit the deck quite a bit...so many varying pieces of data.
Yea, I did this last year...I already had a TR-1 so already had hydraulics setup...I am very lucky on placement in my boat...easy to get to and next to the batteries. Very happy with the Garmin unit...I was trolling a lot in big seas and that thing can still hold!!
I went from 19 to 22 pitch when I repowered with Zuke...gearing is a bit different..make sure your guy gets the height correct...that seems to be an issue with folks. I think mine is down all the way and had no issues..I am running 3 blade powertech with no issues.
Yea, the folks on TheHullTruth are wild about it and are all Mercury guys...haha...I have a 2002 273 Chase and had those motors. No issues in this regard and I threw a rod in 2018 with 1900 hours...only issue I had was 1 wiring harness.
Interesting for sure.
