Survey: Is The Capital Meltdown Affecting You?

We have seen the effects, but only indirectly through the business we own. We are in the aviation business (sell fuel, maintenance, flight training), and things have slowed considerably. Personally, we're like some of the others here; both our cars are paid off, never any credit card debt...

Vista top & that nasty wood fake trim

I've tried all of the suggestions posted here for my trim (penetrol, WD40, etc.), and they all worked. For a very short time. Finally, early this year, my wife was applying a coat to our teak cabin door (the only teak we have left; the rest is Starboard), and she put it on the woody stuff...

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

Yeah, mine is an '88, so it's WAY pre-four stroke and even pre SV2. You could try the same over-exagerrated test I did; go back and sit on your motor while someone measures the waterline/scuppers. That's more than double what the change will really be. In addition, I don't think they've...

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

I just did this exercise with my 228G. The end result was an F200 would probably disappoint compared to an F250 (the weight is nearly the same). Search for my post, and you'll find a long, spirited debate about the overall weight issue. The summary is that my testing showed the weight to be no...

    Grady White Seats and Pedestals

Are the pedestals smooth or ribbed? The smooth ones are generally 2 7/8" and are universal to most seat mounts. I bought a pare of Wise ladderback seats for about $170, and had added the swivel/slider mounts for $125.

repower of my 1984 24' offshore

I recently spent a day in front of an F250 on a friend's boat (not a Grady), and came away REALLY impressed. We were lobstering in the Keys, so we spent a lot of time "trolling" at idle, and also running to different spots on plane. It was unbelieveably quiet and smooth, and never lacked for...

    Scuppers and engine in water

My boat is twenty years old, has a hardtop and radio box with a two-stroke motor, and the fuel tank was moved forward. The scupper exits are still half in the water at rest. I don't believe it's a design flaw or a four-stroke issue...it's been that way for a LONG time and has caused no...

Fuel consumption in 204c with 200 hp?

We'll need more information on which 200hp motor. There's a big difference between a carbed, EFI, HPDI or 4S engine. I used to have a carbed 200 on my 228G, and I averaged around 2mpg. I would think that would be the worst-case for you.

    towing question

I tow mine in Flat Florida with a Toyota Sequoia, and it does great. I towed it once with a '98 4Runner, and that was terrible. Though I've never had it on a scale, I've calculated my tow-weight at about 6000 pounds (boat, motor, trailer, gas, water, gear, hardtop, radio box, ice, etc.), which...

    Refurbishing Cockpit Bolster Pads

I know this is an old thread, but my bolsters were already gone when I bought my boat eight years ago. I read through this to see if I could make them from scratch. While searching for materials, I ran across ready-made bolsters at Boater's World...

    Future of Boating & GW

Wow. I hate to be the one to say it (since I'm at least as suspicious of the government as most people), but damn, there are a lot of people on here blaming everyone else for all the economic problems. It's always about the government, the oil-producing countries, the speculators, big...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Here's another update. I had written directly to Grady-White through their website, after following the FAQ they have posted about repowering. Here is the response that I got today: Thanks for writing, Deric. With the information you have provided I would be pretty confident that the F250...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Though I've still not decided what to do, I wanted to post the results of my simple test/observation on the boat today. First, here's a new one to me and maybe to some of you: the scupper exits are actually underwater at rest, from the factory. The drains in the cockpit are well above the...

    Four Stroke on 228G

I found a decent deal on a low-time 200 HPDI nearby, and am considering that as well (I just hate the thought of less power than my responsive 225 EFI). There continue to be interesting posts here, so I'll keep checking back! Though I don't want the scuppers in the water and won't do it if...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Wow, I had no idea this post would be so passionate! I might as well have started a 2wd vs. 4wd thread...or gas vs. diesel truck, or the dreaded mono vs. cat hull! Anyway, I'm also surprised we haven't heard from more people who have actually DONE it, rather than so much speculation. I...

    Four Stroke on 228G

I would imagine Curmudgeon would have said so if the motor couldn't tilt up (my current 225 two stroke has plenty of extra room), but I'll check on that. I've also decided on a simple test...I'll drop the boat in the water and sit myself on the motor to see what it does (at rest, of course!)...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Oh yeah, and couldn't I relocate my 65 pounds worth of battery from right next to the transom up to the cabin area? A lot of new boats have the batteries in the center console or under the cabin/helm area. By the way, I love that 265! Not many around, but it has been my favorite since I saw...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Really that much difference? From everything I've read, the net weight gain is only 60 pounds compared to a two stroke (remove oil tanks and such), which doesn't seem like a lot, even out on the bracket. The trouble with HPDI is that I already have 225hp, and I definitely don't want less...

    Four Stroke on 228G

Has any one repowered an early (pre SeaV2 hull) 228G with a four stroke? I'm looking at an F225 or F250, and am concerned about the added weight being way back on the Grady Drive. I'd love to hear from someone that's done it and know that the scuppers stay above the water line and such. Anyone?
