How far is your average fishing trip from land

No doubt. I grew up in Miami FL and that is one thing that I miss. Easy access to the stream. :D

How far is your average fishing trip from land

I am like wahoo - total wimp factor here. I top out at about 5 miles off the coast, but I am in a 19 foot tournament. Also, I boat in shouthport, NC, which is at the mouth of the cape fear and right at Frying Pan Shoals. It can get nasty. If it is rough, I just fish the Intercoatal and...

    New guy, need some help.

X2 on what seasick said. Find a local upholstery shop that has experience doing boats. Got my entire 192 tournament done this year for 1100. Aft jump seats, lounge seat and base, helm chair, and bow cushions. And I lost one of the aft jump seats, so they had to make that from scratch using...

Locating VHF antenna on Freedom 225

Amen to that. Always have a fixed mount VHF, no matter what. Plus a phone for backup. Just not worth the risk. Is there a regulation that reuires VHF for say 21 foot boats and larger?? I would imagine big brother would mandate this at some point.

Gangway to stern of 330 Grady Express

I think posting a picture may give a better idea of exactly what you are dealing with. However, just thinking outside of the box, perhaps a portable wheelchair ramp would be an option. This would not be left in place overnight, etc.... Just used when you need access to the boat for loading...

    Broken horn?

I love the way west marine makes exact replicas of other products. I was i'n the market to replace 2 pop out pie plates with the screw down pie plates and they did not stock Beckson plates. Figured I would try the west marine brand, and sure enough, an exact replacement down to the location of...

    External Fuel Filters

Will the real Randy please stand up. I hope your boat does not have the water separators! Because if they are there as others have suggested and the surveyor could not find them, then I would be freaking out about the dude who surveyed the boat. Keep us posted. I am betting they...

New Etec on the market, impressions?

I am an Evinrude guy too. Love my old Ocean Pro. But man, this motor looks horrible. I couldn't see hanging this on my Grady White. I am not getting into the merits of the engineering. I just can't get past how bad it looks. I am trying to envision the outboard in all white. Maybe that...

    OMC spray paint dry time

I thought I would update this post in case someone else ever encounters this issue and does a search on GreatGrady. I just spoke with technical support at BRP/Evinrude and they assure me that the cure time is 24 hours. Even for re-sanding and follow up coats. Hmmmm. I have waited 3 days, so...

Locating VHF antenna on Freedom 225

I agree with Parthery. All of the Tournaments (now Freedom) have the VHF antenna on the starboard side, right where the operator sits. It is on the top of the starboard gunwale, on the outside of the side window. I can stand up on my Tournament, reach over the side window and access the...

    OMC spray paint dry time

Folks, believe it or not, the Evinrude/Johnson touch up paint I got directly from Evinrude does NOT provide any information whatsoever about curing time. What the heck? I have checked all over the inernet and can't seem to find this information. The color is the OMC white, 1981 and on. I have...

    Window trim replacement

HooHoo, please post if you are able to locate a source. Unfortunately, I have been looking to replace this trim on my 192 and can't find it anywhere. I am wondering whether the new 192 Freedom uses the same material. Good luck and let us know what you find.

    Steering at low speed

X2 on trimming the motor up at low speed. It does help with tracking. I think part of the issue is you may be getting used to the boat. I had the same concerns/frustration with my 192 for the first few months. Now I don't even notice. I don't remember my Mako ever tracking that way, but I...

    Steering at low speed

Really need more information from you. I have a 94 192 Tournament and can tell you that the hull does not track well at low speed - it is easy to over steer and zig zag. However, it is not impossible to steer as you describe. Sounds to me as though you have other issues. Is your helm a...

    1999 grady white seafarer 226 1998 yamaha 250hp outboard

Dave, I think the way to know for sure is to get the marine survey. If you like the boat and she looks well taken care of, then the survey will be worth the money. Any minor thnings that are found that need repair could be a basis to reduce the asking price or have the owner fix the items...

    oil stain at water line

I had the same thing happen to me on Jordan lake in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. But I have an old looper as well - 1994 Evinrude Ocean Pro, V6 200hp. I never spill oil when putting oil in my reservoir at the stern though. Anyway, I hit mine with a whole lot of acetone and elbow grease...

Yup. X2 on what C said. 30 years on that transom. Go Grady! If you love the boat and see keeping her, do it right.

Awlgrip Repair & Advice On Settling A Mishap

Man, I hate this for you. But I must say, this guy is not being realistic. Kind of like getting a ding on your new car and demanding that the individual pay the cost to repaint the whole thing. Assuming jb is correct on being able to blend in the repair - which seems absolutely correct - then...

Awlgrip Repair & Advice On Settling A Mishap

Based on jb's observations, it sounds like you are getting hosed. I would not pay him the ransom. If his carrier gets involved, perhaps they will be more reasonable. Probably not, but at least you can negotiate with them to try to resolve it for much less. The carrier will have to decide...
