    West Coast Bluefin

I may try Sunday launching from Dana Point and working towards the east end of Catalina to see what we see... This is exactly what these bluefin have done the past 2 years in a row moving north around this time. Last year mid-July I was chasing foamers between the 14 mile bank and 267, and 2...

    West Coast Bluefin

Ha! I didn't even notice it there in the pic. Just read your report on BD. That's an absolutely amazing story! Fish of a lifetime! I'm 0 for 4 on big bluefin on my boat... one hook pull, one chew off, one that went squirrely boatside and sawed itself off on my motor, and one moron boater who...

LED stern lights keep burning out

Yep, what Glacierbaze says. I'd check it with the engine running too. LED's are very sensitive to current and voltage and don't like it if they are overpowered for too long. Your engine charging circuit probably jumps the voltage at the light to 14 or 15 volts if it's not regulated.

1996 yamaha txru - runs fine then wont start after a few hours

I can't add much to this discussion, but a trick I've done in the past when I got an overheat alarm was to hook up the washdown hose to the motor flush fitting and run water through the block with the motor off. Maybe doing that would speed up the 30-45 minute wait time, and if it did, that...

    Gas Cap Lock

Yeah, it's not the fastest process... in fact really quite slow if you rely on a gravity feed through a 3/8" hose. Repeated pumping of the primer bulb makes it go faster... that's your "manual mechanical" fuel pump ;-) Most anti-siphon valves require a vacuum of about 1.5 inches of mercury to...

    Gas Cap Lock

The unfortunate part of outboard powered boats is the easiest way (though maybe not the fastest) is to disconnect the fuel line just past the primer bulb and use the bulb to prime a siphon. Easy access to the fuel lines in many cases. Just like in vehicles, you can have locking gas caps, but...

Trim tab- anti fouling paint and zincs

Someone else suggested it to me when they saw me scrubbing off tiny barnacles at the launch ramp wash rack.

Trim tab- anti fouling paint and zincs

This is going to sound really stupid, but I've used Desitin diaper rash cream on my trim tabs. The longest I ever keep my boat in the water is 2-3 weeks at a time, but if I apply the stuff at the beginning of the season, it's still there and effective at the end of the season. Is it the best...

Good things that boaters have done for each other?

My experience fishing offshore in southern California is that while there is a lot of bickering on the radio, especially when fighting over fish, for the most part people look out for each other. First story: I was out fishing albacore out of Ensenada, Mexico with a buddy in his 20 foot...

Scummy Things Fellow Boaters Have Done To Others...

That's every weekend in San Diego! Last year we pulled up to a school of foaming bluefin in the 70-100 lb class. I cast a jig right into the middle of the foamer and was instantly bit... line starts peeling off my reel and here comes another boat flying in to get into the middle of the action...

    Adding trim tabs

    Adding trim tabs

Speed and fuel savings... that's tough to answer because it depends on conditions. What trim tabs allow you to do is stay on plane at lower speeds and level out the boat due to conditions, whether that be where passengers are sitting while underway or wind and chop direction. Things like getting...

    Deal gone south

Wait, the USA has turned into a 3rd world country where cops pull people over and confiscate money with no warrant and no probable cause? Maybe I'm naive, but if you're worried about that, I can see why you may have scared the seller off...

Adventure 208 with Yamaha F150 data

Yep, I agree with this, Dennis. Every day on the water is different, and the trim is always something that I adjust by feel. Though there are times where having a position indicators would be nice, like when I make a course change and have to adjust trim. In those situations, I retract both tabs...

Adventure 208 with Yamaha F150 data

Trim tabs are very worth considering if you do a lot of offshore runs. I mostly launch out of Dana Point, and those long runs back from the 181 or 43 are so much nicer with them. Even runs up the coast along the beach are nicer with them. Without tabs, the boat will lean into the wind, it will...

Adventure 208 with Yamaha F150 data

Not surprising... Real-life data is usually not quite up to specs, since we rarely ever do our boating in 100% ideal conditions. Here are my performance numbers with a 175 HP Yamaha carb'ed SWS. The boat has bottom paint, a radar arch, a bimini top that's always up, trim tabs, and a 32 gallon...

97 208 Adventure Transducers and Placement?

My boat used to have a thru-hull transducer installed just forward and outboard of the water intake on the starboard side, kind of where that clean spot is I marked with the arrow in your photo below. It was a very large transducer the previous owner used for rockfishing 600+ feet deep and it...

    208 trim tabs

Just adding my 2 cents in. I have Bennett 12x9's installed. I ran a couple seasons without them, then installed them. I would never run this boat again without them. By far the best upgrade I did on this hull. As stated above, they are most useful to level the boat in a crosswind and quartering...
