Re-power or sell and buy newer used?

FWIW, I've got the same hull and motor as you with about 1900 hours on it. 5 years ago, we got an overheat alarm while offshore one day. We shut it down for a while until the alarm cleared, and it came back after running for about 20 minutes. Shut down again, and I hooked up the washdown hose to...

    Ox66 outboard for wakeboarding?

Haha, yep. They are one of my most favorite boats (along with Farallons and Gradys, of course). I spent quite a few Fred Hall shows chatting with Harold Davis back in the day. His boats are totally overbuilt and pretty much indestructible. I was sad to see when he sold the business and the new...

    Ox66 outboard for wakeboarding?

You're not going to damage the motor going in and out of gear while wakeboarding. It will do just fine. That is a great photo. Two of the best trailer boats ever made... an awesome Grady and a beautiful Davis Cortez pilothouse!

Yellow water line stain - finally gone.

Oxalic acid is great stuff. Instant stain remover on fiberglass and stainless steel. Just don’t let drip on aluminum or galvanized steel trailer. Rinse it off with water right away if it does. Oxalic acid is the active ingredient in many hull cleaners.

    Gas Tank Maintenance

My 1995 hull originally had an aluminum tank with removable deck cover. But, the hull was replaced under warranty in 1997 and came back from Grady with a poly tank and a solid deck. (It also grew a bow pulpit too. Grady goes above and beyond with their warranties. The original owner literally...

Grady 208 - bimini poles on outside of enclosure?

Found 1 more photo that shows a closer view of the bimini zipper and frame. You can kind of see the stitching holding the zipper to the canvas. There's about a 3 or 4 inch gap with no stitching to pass the frame pole between the zipper and the canvas. Ignore the dolphins in the background. ;)

Grady 208 - bimini poles on outside of enclosure?

On mine, the bimini frame is on the outside of the enclosure. The frame gets threaded between the canvas and the zipper. Hopefully these pictures help.

    Tilt hydraulics leaking - Fix

Why does this thread read like an advertisement for the stop leak additive? The brand name was mentioned 8 times in the first post alone with a link on where to buy it. It's not like it's some kind of miracle cure. Stop leak additives have been around forever.

2 stroke oil and fuel stabilizer reccomendations

I’m boring and have always used Ring Free and Yamalube. The stuff is a lot more expensive than it used to be, but I’ve had no issues over 1800 hours on the motor, and it’s cheap compared to the cost of a new powerhead or motor. You’ll get a lot of different opinions on the matter.

Fuel sending unit... easy or can of worms

Mine was easy. Took the old one out, measured it’s length, ordered a replacement from Wema USA and installed it. The whole process took about 10 minutes. Just make sure your fuel tank is not completely full, otherwise if the boat is bow high on the trailer, you could have fuel come out the...

    90’ Grady White Overnighter project

Clean work. That looks great. I love these project build posts.

    90’ Grady White Overnighter project

That looks good! Did you go pure white, or did you match the Grady gelcoat?

Four pole rack for a1994 Adventure

I've seen people mount plastic ones to the sides of the cuddy cabin, if just used for storage. You'd just have to find a location where it didn't interfere with the bimini frame. In my case, I've got 4 rod holders on the Kodiak bait tank mounted in the center of the deck, and also 6 holders on...

    Towing Adventure 208

Seasick’s numbers are pretty good, except the dry weight of the 208 is 2650 lbs for your vintage hull, not 2000. Here’s what I always figure for heaviest case: Trailer 1100 lbs (I have a Pacific galvanized trailer) Hull 2650 lbs Motor 420 lbs Full fuel tank 500 lbs Full fresh water tank 80 lbs...

Dual battery set up in 1999 Adventure 205

Sdfish, typical cruise in normal 2-3 foot chop with some wind is 4200 RPM, burning about 10 GPH, cruising at 24 knots. When we're heavy with bait and fuel, that may bump up closer to 11 GPH. If it's flat glassy, we can bump up to 4400 RPM and cruise at about 28 knots before fuel economy starts...

Dual battery set up in 1999 Adventure 205

The previous owner did the install, and it is bolted to the deck. We’ve got 2 thru-hulls... one is shared with the under step livewell and wash down hose, and the other dedicated to the bait tank. The intake hose comes out through the rear bulkhead and lays along the deck for about 16 inches or...

Dual battery set up in 1999 Adventure 205

Cool, nice to see local people on the board! I lived in Carlsbad for 12 years before moving 3 years ago. The built-in bait tank is useless for anything but a few mackerel or as a place to bleed out fish before throwing them on ice. We've got a Kodiak Pro-Flow 32 gallon on the middle of the...

Dual battery set up in 1999 Adventure 205

Congrats on your purchase! In my boat, I do not have an ACR, just 2 Group 27 batteries and the selector switch. When the switch is set to both, both batteries charge. I do what most people do not recommend doing in that I leave the selector switch on Both unless I'm stopped with the motor off...

Confusion: Fuel Tank and Fuel Pump on Adventure 208

I had that exact symptom once with my 1995 175 Yamaha 2-stroke. Just a few hours after a service, the RPM's maxed out at 4200. Normal WOT was 5300 RPM. It turned out we had a bad spark plug. Problem went away when we changed the plugs again. I assume as part of the tune up, they would have...

Real cause for air bubbles in exhaust out of prop

We were, which is why I started with the caveat that my post was kind of off topic. But, my point was, I guess, what's new is old... The new Yamaha 425 re-routes the exhaust to lessen cavitation on the prop in reverse. That type of design existed in an OMC drive that came out in 1964, and worked...
