90’ Grady White Overnighter project

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and from South California, I started my project last year and had fun with it, I did the inboard to outboard conversion. The boat was given to me in exchange for some motor work from someone. So it came with a 4.3 block with a rod thru it and no outdrive.

I got to work on the engine and transom mount removal

Then I started to disassemble most things and found termite damage to the transom

Found the damage was only around the old Volvo transom, so I made a cut out and used “peanut butter” and fiberglass

I closed up with a beefy 3/4” marine plywood and fiberglassedthe inner area, closed up the side vent and did the deck/engine bay area

I bought 2001 225 hp Yamaha Saltwater Series II fuel injected pretty cheap with harness, control, prop and it was 120-125 psi compression

I saw someone with a white Yamaha outboard with a custom decal so I had to do it because it really look cool, off to the body shop!

That looks good! Did you go pure white, or did you match the Grady gelcoat?

I matched the Grady paint on the fiberglass, on the motor I went with Performance White

Beauty work Hunter! It looks like you have had experience with prep and a spray gun. Very professional, and really like the new look. I do a lot of catalytic lacquer spraying, so do realize the effort takes to get it "right on" and you did, Cheers, trapper
