    Weather stripping in aft cockpit

Well, I didn't see any link in my response, so I guess my attempt failed. Sorry about that. Hope you can still find them on eBay.

    Weather stripping in aft cockpit

If this link to eBay works, I believe it is what you're looking for. If not, just google Taco Flex Trim in the dimensions, (height, thickness) of what you have, and I believe you'll come up with it easily enough. Ebay seller Taylor Marine is a Grady dealer and I have bought from them before on...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

GV: My duct work went around the port side of the aft berth to get to the steps. But you may be asking about continuing further forward than that. You may be able to continue the duct work behind the fridge. Then you may be able to locate a small, maybe three inch, vent beneath the counter...

Any advice to repair interior liner crack? (with photo)

Yes, it's an older, hardly used, but just sat in the weather for 14 years. I like the idea of drilling a 1/8" hole. If that has a chance of stopping the crack, it's worth a try. I've had Gorilla Tape over it for nearly two years, but want to deal with it in some way. My house has vinyl siding...

    A/C

Having just finished the job on a 282, I'll offer some suggested questions to ask yourself. On an Islander, I'm guessing 5,000-5,500 BTU would be sufficient cooling power. Do you have a place to put a unit of that size? From that space, can you run 4" ducting some distance from the unit and...

Any advice to repair interior liner crack? (with photo)

This liner crack above the port window has been there since I boat the boat about two years ago. It does not appear to be expanding. Anyone have experience of a fix that that will stop any future expansion and still look reasonably okay? My current thought is to have home depot do their best to...

    A/C

Tom: I purchased a Mermaid AC unit out of Ft. Myers, FL. I read some good reviews, but I don't really know if they are one of the better units or not. What struck me was that many reviews said they were geared for the do-it-yourselfer and provide greater assistance after the sale. I found this...

    A/C

Amongst the other practicalities, you'll need to consider where you'll place your through-hull fitting for the condensing sea water water source. Some have placed the thru-hull in the rear bilge and the 500 GPH pump pumped water forward to the unit just fine. I wasn't comfortable cutting a new...

    How does beam affect ride?

A lot of good information here. I'll add another tidbit that has always intrigued me. The draft of the 271 is 23", greater than any other Grady her size and greater than the 306 at 21" and equal to the Marlin's 23". It is equal to the 23" of a Contender 30st. I asked my dealer about this some...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

An access hole is a good idea if I have the space. Thinking it through, I think I could access 3 of the four blind side nuts while tightening the nuts again. But the hole would have to be off to the right, between the support brackets, and likely about 4" in diameter to give me enough wiggle...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Thanks, Tealejr. Freezing up the unit isn’t something that was on my radar. It will be now. In my story above, I left out the part about disconnecting the main duct line from the unit itself when no air was coming out of the vents. I was afraid of some huge tear or other blockage from when I...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

It works! Went down to boat yesterday to make some of the temporary pieces more permanent. I.e., cut more holes in the boat. But they had a slip open with power. So in she went. And to my pleasant surprise, all seemed to work. When I first opened the seacock, water rushed through the lines...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Lookin' good, blondie! :) This plexiglass has a unique property. Somehow it filters out grey and restores blonde. Because, believe me, its harder and harder to find anything but grey up there. I know because my daughter very kindly tells me each time she comes home from college.

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Accomplished two things since last post. Installed and wired in control box and thermostat and replaced aft berth starboard rear panel with a temporary plexiglass panel. Was ready to test the system yesterday and the marina said every wet slip with a power pedestal was taken for the holiday...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

FSC60: Thanks and you are observant! I chose the Groco for its quality but also because it has a large bowl with a threaded plug with an O-ring at the base of the bowl. As Ahill pointed out to another member using a forward through-hull, there will likely be a fair amount of air in the lines...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Finally, the AC is in!! Not yet wired in, but (hopefully) that will be relatively easy. The water supply and exit hoses are connected as well as a drip pan connection to the shower sump. Non insulated ducting runs to two outlets on the steps. I'll add a third when Amazon gets another matching...

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Well, looks my post of the new Head to Holding Tank hose didn't take. So I'll try again. Explained situation to guy at Boat Owners Warehouse. They had the same hose I used. He said it is rated for use below the water line but it is not as durable as the better hoses and odors will pass through...

    Permanent A/C installation....anyone tackled this?

Just to add a thought to this old thread. Seemed to be much concern about adding through hulls. An option for us was to use the holding tank's overboard discharge. We never once used it and had no intention of using it. So it became the cooling water intake source for our Mermaid 6500 btu unit...

    282 Sailfish Mid-berth Size?

I’m 5’8” and I have to use a half-round pillow below my knees to be able to lay flat on my back in the mid-berth. With my knees raised some, not to the extreme, I can be quite comfortable on our custom mattress. Not on the durable, but overly firm mattress Grady provides.
