    282 Windlass

For the second straight year, my windlass is frozen after the shrink wrap came off. Last year we were able to get it working, but it is time to replace it. Would love to get your thoughts? I have a 2006 282. Any suggestions?

    What's GW's best seller?

At the NE boat show a couple weeks ago, the GW display had almost every Dual Console Freedom on display from 20' - 36'. They had 1 cabin boat the 330, and a couple of CC including the new bay boat. One of the dealers told me the dual consoles are about 70% of their business now.

Thanks for all the information - Sailfish 282!

I have a 2006 282 with F225 engines. No corrosion issues, just checked this fall. I have ahd the boat for 3 summers and have really enjoyed it. we have yet to overnight, perhaps this summer, as it is tough logistically to do with the family and all the activities. I runat about 28mph...

    Boston Boat Show

Went to the show and was pleased to see it is a little larger than the past few years, a good sign. GW as always had a large display, but I was shocked to find only 1 cabin boat, the 330. Not a single walkaround and only a couple of CC. However they had nearly the complete line of DC all the...

    F150 on 18 Sportsman

I had a 180 with a Yam 130 2S. Awesome boat and perfect match with the motor. that motor is almost 100lbs lighter than the 4S if I remember correctly. something seems wrong with the other boat, the motor should hit 5700 rpm or so, I would think. Maybe propped wrong? Mine would list to port...

    282 Sailfish w/ F225 performance ques?

I run a 2006 Sailfish with F225 Yamis. I usually cruise at about 3900 rpm which is about 28-29mph by GPS. I usually get 1.5mpg top, occasionally I hit 1.6mpg. With near full fuel (200g) I hit 1.4mpg. Top end is about 5600 rpm and 42mph. I usually cruise at the optimal mpg and rarely go any...

    F150 on 18 Sportsman

The GW website has performance for the 180 w/F150. It is a rocket ship. One thing to consider is the weight of the F150 causes the stern to sit low in the water. Water comes in through the scuppers when you stand in the stern. Great efficiency and top end.

    Who is right?

Interesting, looks like about 50/50. I tried to be completely objective in describing the scenario, but many of you correctly assumed I was the one entering the inlet. This is the North River and in this instance, as is usually the case, it was relatively calm. In certain conditions (falling...

    Who is right?

I'd like to get your opinions on who is right in the following encounter... A tidal river in New England has a narrow mouth and a narrower channel (about 20 yds in spots). The mouth is very fishy as strong currents flow through it, rocks on one side and a large sand bar on the other. At the...

    advice needed

Hi Dale, I have an '06 Sailfish 282 with T225 Yamis. This is my 3rd season. I use the boat for combination of family, lobstering, fishing around south shore of boston and cape cod. I believe the 282 is 8,000lbs + and has a 9'6" beam making her a wide load and very heavy to trailer. I do not...

Fridge survey - do you use it...?

really dumb question.... is there a swith to turn on the refrigerator on the Sailfish? I can't find one. Is it always just on?

Fridge survey - do you use it...?

I have an 06 Sailfish and the fridge has been used for nothing but storage. But... reading this thread I may use it now. I was under the impression it had to have shore power, meaning once off the dock it would drain the batteries. Now that I think about it reading this thread, that doesn't...

How do you dock your Sailfish..?

Yes, I use both engines and the wheel. I am berthed in a tidal river with a 10' exchange. Late flood/ebb tide currents can be 5 knots+ which can be combined with wind to make it impossible to get in. Wait for slack tide! But mid-tide is doable, just hard. When I am in a harbor with no...

How do you dock your Sailfish..?

I moved from a single outboard (Sportsman 180) to the Sailfish 282 with twin 225s. It takes some practice (I had the 180 for 7 years and had been pretty good with the single) but I find the twins give much more control. Like you I back in to my slip the same way although with a very strong...

    Tackle Bag

Thanks guys. My Sailfish has 2 tackle drawers and a larger compartment behind the companion seat. What tends to happen is the larger compartment gets jammed with stuff, especially when the bite is on and gets to be a mess. the tackle drawers hold smaller boxes and are not a good solution...

    Tackle Bag

Hi all, I have a sailfish 282 and have just finished my first full season. She's on blocks now for the winter and after removing all of my gear, I'm thinking about how I can be better organized. Do any of you have a good tackle bag to recommend? I like to tie leaders, etc. at home and its a...

    Helix Moorings

we have a cottage on Cape Cod bay in N. Truro. We installed a helix mooring in the sand in front of the cottage 2 years ago. On a moon low tide, we used a turning bar to drill it into the sand, i think about 5 feet. We had about 1.5 feet of water at that time. We have no other moorings close...

To Survey or Not to Survey - 2001 GW 180

Not sure how heavy the HPDI is, but the 180 with a 150 4S will sit a little low in the water aft. In fact if you stand aft you will get some water in the scuppers. Not a problem, just fyi. Bottom paint will chip or flake off if the boat sat out of the water for a year. The 180 is a great...

    36 express

MagicalBill is 100% right about anchoring up to a beach with a big boat. I do this quite often in a 282 Sailfish and I can tell you that is tough in wind, current with lots of boats. Very tough. However, I might say that with stright inboards it would be impossible for me as I need to get the...

    Great Grady Service

This is one reason why I am a loyal GW customer... Last June I purchased a 2006 Sailfish 282 in a private sale from a good friend. Just prior to selling it, he told me that he had a couple of cracks in the headliner that GW was fixing under warranty, so we waited a few weeks before closing. I...
