Exactly! Im pretty sure that's exactly what happened to my transom.

Any other documentation? Thanks for what you shared so far. Think I'm going to remove the inside 3/4" plywood and replace with a pc of aluminum. 3/4"x4" and extend past where the plywood ends and tie into the stringers.

The transom of my '95 268 has seen better days. Removed the twin engines, removed the Bang cap and fiberglass cap. Next I find a piece of aluminum the width of the engine well, ~60 inches in length, mounted on the top surface of the transom (~2") then bends down on the inside of the transom...

What I'm referring to is the fact that the hull/keel doesn't go all the way to the transom...that's what I meant by stepped hull.

Not sure my '95 has that U-channel in it. Do you know when they started that? Does your '97 have the stepped hull?

I was thinking of doing something like the in the bilge area and tie it to the stringer(s).

When did Grady start installing the aluminum piece on top of the transom that is tied into the stringers and runs from 1 lifting eye to the other?
