    228G Seafarer

I have a '00 228G with a Yamaha 225 two stroke on the back. The scuppers are never completely out of the water and with full load of fuel are about 3/4 covered. They drain fine and I never have a wet deck from back flow.

    Recomdations for Hand Held VHF

I would recommend a Standard Horizon handheld that also has a built-in GPS. Not sure of any model numbers but they make several models with GPS. For what it's worth I have a HX270S (no GPS) that I've had for a number of years. Luckily I've never needed it but carry it in my bag when offshore...

2000 OX66 died on me today, troubleshooting ideas?

Not sure why anyone would remove the prime bulb??? Really strange. In the future you might want to make sure the tank switch button on the panel is matched with the y-valve in your fuel line. What is displaying as a full tank could be the tank you're not running. Don't ask me how I know :-|

    New Electronics

On the bottom I screwed into plywood that makes up the helm and on the top I replaced a screw in each of the smoke glass door hinges with a really long machine screw that holds the top in place. The panel is really solid and I think improves the look of the helm so much. Not sure why Grady...

    New Electronics

My old Garmin 235 Sounder finally died this spring and I took the opportunity to replace it with some up to date electronics. I also decided to improve the looks of the helm by flush mounting the new chartplotter/sounder. As you can tell, the old "glove box" was a great place to toss keys...

yamaha 225 not coming out of water

Sounds like you may have a leak in either your tilt and trim cylinders. You can usually see oil on the cylinder below the post as a pretty good tell-tale. There is an fluid fill for the reservoirs and not much problem to fill. I've used an old-fashioned type oiler filled with transmission...

    Grady drive inspection?

Have you checked for water inside the bracket? If it's dry it doesn't sound like the bracket's in that bad of shape. My bracket has always been totally dry although the powder coating has cracked around the engine bolts exposing the bare metal. It looks worse than it is and at some point I...

    Seafarer 228

On my '00 Seafarer the distance from the deck to the top of the windshield is about 60". This was using a tape measure and kind of eyeballing as level as I could. Not sure how accurate you need. Also, the width of the panel covering the fuel tank is around 24 1/2". Hope this helps.

    What 265 Express Upgrades?

Sea Shift, It looks like you used starboard to replace the smoke colored door to flush mount your electronics. How is this attached to the helm? I don't see evidence of any type of fasteners on the surface. I'm looking at doing something similar to my Seafarer and thinking of all types of...

please help with 88 seafarer gas tank sizes ?

Here's a link to the 1988 Grady White manuals. You'll have to look through to find your particular model. It appears that your auxillary tank if located aft of the main tank. This is just opposite of my 2000 Seafarer. The link is http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/manu ... el=Owners_

please help with 88 seafarer gas tank sizes ?

According to the 1988 Grady White manual the Seafarer had a 95 gallon main tank with the option for a 55 gal secondary tank. This information is available on the Grady White web page.

    Snaps for cushions

Received the snaps and tool from Sailrite and replaced all broken snaps on my cushions this afternoon. This was a very easy & inexpensive process. Everything turned out great :P

    Snaps for cushions

Thanks for all the tips & recommendations. I just ordered some stainless snaps from Sailrite along with the punch and anvil tool. Couldn't justify the expense of the expensive tool for only a handful of snaps.

    Understanding Battery Charging

My '00 228 is set up with a battery switch. The engine only charges the battery that is selected (unless BOTH is selected). I typically set the switch on battery #1 on the way out and switch to battery #2 on the way back in. I never leave the switch on BOTH. This works well for me to keep...

    Snaps for cushions

I'm getting ready to replace some broken button snaps on my cushions and am looking for a source for good snaps & tool. I've not heard good things about the West Marine snaps. Anybody out there that could point me in the right directions?

    Engine Uh Oh......

I agree it's probably the low pressure pumps. Squeeze the bulb enough and you should see some fuel leaking.

    Engine Uh Oh......

I'd take a look at the low pressure pumps also. You could pump the primer bulb while the engine is running. If you're able to get the RPMs up I would change the pumps. There may also be spilled fuel once you squeeze the bulb enough.

Cover for entire boat with Hard Top

Does anyone know the name of the company that used to advertise covers on Great Grady? I haven't been on in quite a while and can't seem to find their advertisement anymore. I'm interested in talking with them about a cover.
