2014 330 Express Water Heater Removal

Try this.... https://defender.com/assets/pdf/seaward/seaward_waterheaters_install2.pdf Look at Defender for a model close to yours. Looks to me like you have to take the cover off and mounting is inside the base.

    2006 Gulfstream 232 Spreader Lights

You could replace the switches in the dome light with 2 new on-off-on-off switches. The dome light switch has three wires to it. One press white light, next press off, next press red light. Spreader light is on-off. You would have to run another wire to the new spreader lights. If you do...

    Removing hot water heater

Water heaters fill from the bottom with cold water and hot water exits out the top. Hot water floats so the pump pressure helps push the hot water out. To winterize you have to disconnect hoses to drain the tank. There are kits with quick connects that lets you connect cold and hot lines...

    Replacement deck plate

They both work well if maintained. I use pop-in's with new o-rings and SuperLube. I am switching my splash well plates to screw-in for added safety. They all still need to be maintained.

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

When I spoke to Young's Fiberglass in Marmora, NJ a few years back they said the same thing. We don't want to do a transom too early...it's easier when the wood is wet and coming apart. That wasn't a problem for my fiberglass guys. They told me all the wood was wet. They scraped it out with a...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

"They are all sinking. Only difference is how fast!". If you are opening up a transom for a partial repair just do it right and do it once. If you are lucky (and most likely will be) the stringers are not involved. Do transom from the outside with a knowledgeable contractor. If stringers are...

Replace Fuel Tanks on Express 360

Attached is a thread I documented replacing the tanks in my 1997 268 Islander. Your hull will have different challenges. You should talk to another GW owner who has experience with your hull. When I talk to any contractor working on my boat, car, truck, home, etc. I have a simple test: "Do I...

Get a look at the construction of the newer model. I'll bet they improved the seal on the hinged panel for safety.

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

I agree...moisture meters are just one piece of information. Movement is the biggest give away. Look inside the hull at the engine bolts for swelling/cracking. Look at bang cap for swelling. Look at tie down u-bolts for swelling. If you are going to do all this work take a 2" hole saw and check...

The most expensive fishing trip - 94 Marlin

I don't know anything good or bad about the ones you have. My fiberglass guys made two medium sized holes for access and used the Beckson screw-down ones. The two existing larger ones are Beckson pop-in's. They will be replaced with Beckson screw-in. This is a work-in-progress photo - I'll try...

I just had my transom redone. I'm going to swap the pop out ones in the splash well for the screw type.

    NY to Fl

Start with your local marina. These .com shipping companies can offer great prices but I have heard so many horror stories. A boat your size is not just some guy with a F150 pickup truck transport. Do you have a trailer? I drag my 268 Islander to Islamorada and back to Cape May every winter for...

The most expensive fishing trip - 94 Marlin

GW and other small boat hulls "hide" the accumulation of water in the bilge under the deck. When the boat starts to handle improperly you are already in big trouble. I have bilge pump lights on the dash to indicate the pumps are operating. Bilge is usually very dry but I do watch them. I also...

The most expensive fishing trip - 94 Marlin

I'm always amazed at these "blame game" stories. What was the lesson learned? A bilge pump isn't going to save your boat if you are taking on that much water. The forward bilge is connected with a small diameter hose which may be plugged at the factory to isolate the compartments. A "crash...

    282 Transom

What year? In my opinion all Grady White owners of older boats have a transom in their future. All in denial. There are so many ways for water to get in there most of which are inaccessible. Mine was a Greenwood XL plywood transom that should not have rotted out. It did. My Yamaha/Suzuki dealer...

Lewmar Pro Fish 700/1000 Windlass on a Marlin 300

Lewmar windlass is very sensitive to anchor rhode thickness. Rope to chain splice too. Don't overload anchor rhode locker or rope/chain splice won't feed. Use 8-plait from Lewmar as specified. Couple of years of experimenting. Everything working fine now.

    Dash conversion, Sailfish 272

With those Garmin 90xx displays with 4k resolution I would be looking at making room for larger than 13” displays. Maybe even going to a single 19”. 4k makes the combo screens more practical. You get 4 times the resolution of the 86xx screen. I’m setup with a 8612 at the helm and a 8610 in the...
