    226 / 228 Seafarer Trailer Size?

The 2224-7TD stands for 22' to 24' and 7,000 lb capacity with TieDown spindles. They used to stamp it all out on the I-beam back when I bought the trailer you traded in. That trailer, and your new one, seems to be perfect for the 228.

Grady White's and GOM don't mix well

Wow. Good thing I "dumped" my 228 on KY Grady. I didn't realize I had been using the wrong boat for 10 years. 10 great years. I never made the run from Key West to the Tortugas (wanted to) but I made the run from Everglades City to Key West many times. My 228 had the 146 gallon tanks (total).

Topping Up Bennett Trim Tab Oil

Good call, KY Grady. That's what is in there now. I topped it off about every 5 years. You should be good for awhile. ツ

    livewell/washdown valve

I'm not sure about 1989, but in 2004 they used Apollo valves. Does it look something like this? http://www.apollovalves.com/products/by ... ecific/263

How to remove bolsters and stern seat back cushions???

The previous owner definitely had the screws in the weep holes (came in from the front). ツ When I had the bolsters redone, they did the bolsters without weep holes and screws. The screws were certainly not needed. The bolsters fit very snug without them. Trailered at 80mph, motored through...

Hmm. I guess I should have rinsed the underside of the gunnels more often. ツ

    LED spreader lights recommendations

I just found my original correspondence with Chris at Coastal. I bought those lights in 2009. To say they have some age on them is being conservative. ツ

    LED spreader lights recommendations

As Ky Grady said, I had the Coastal Night Lights for quite a few years (5+) and can't say enough good about them. The metal hardware showed its age (probably due to my lack of properly rinsing it after every trip), but the lights worked flawlessly. If anything they were a little too bright for...

Crack near or in transom? - 1991 Seafarer 228g

No,worries! As dirty as it is, it sure looks like a bilge!

Crack near or in transom? - 1991 Seafarer 228g

That's not the bilge. The switch is well above deck level. I'm not sure how that beam/shelf attaches to the transom, but I don't think I would consider it to be part of the actual transom. Definitely worth having your inspector check it out though.

Finally, a Grady White to call mine.

Just a temporary hiatus. My son is headed off to college and he was always my first mate. It would be sitting more than running for the next 4 years if we kept it. And that just didn't seem right. We'll get another Grady at some point. In the meantime I'll live vicariously through Ky Grady...

    Make The Trade?

I agree with 94. Run your dad's boat for awhile and see what you think. I love 4 strokes, but if the 2 stoke is solid, it could be a great trade.

Negotiation - how much to offer?

Like John says, do your research. See what your specific model is going for. Not just in your area, but nationwide. You might find the perfect deal in Utah that will make it worth you traveling out there to buy it. Once you have the ball park price in mind, contact the seller and ask every...

Negotiation - how much to offer?

My first question is, how do you know it doesn't have the exhaust issue? Has it been checked recently? Aside from that, the price doesn't seem out of line. There might be some wiggle room though.

Negotiation - how much to offer?

Sometimes the price the seller is asking is actually a fair price. I recently sold my 228 to a fellow member. I set my price at what I considered to be fair to both parties. He had concerns about the potential corrosion in the exhaust, so I reduced the price by the amount required to repair the...

Fixing rusty balljoint on end of seacock pushrod

Here is a picture of my 228 bilge. When my connections rusted out 10 years ago I went with the fork style connection. They've been flawless ever since.
