Some running shots of my 1988 190 Tournament

I thought I would share some running shots my Friend Nancy Henahan took this past weekend for my 1988 190 Tournament. I was up meeting with a bunch of other Whaler Owners on Mullett Lake in Northern Mi and brought my Grady along because the Whaler was just too big to haul 600 miles round trip...

How can I dry up a fresh-water-soaked transom?

Grady_22 Nicely done. I too hate the aluminum cap on my 1988 190 Tournament and are looking at doing the exact same thing to mine. Last year I redid all of my thru-hull fittings and found the core to be solid but, I know that cap is the weak point in keeping the transom that way....

Motor Cover - Simple and Cheap Solution

Unfortunately I am not able to have the Grady White I own and keep down here at my house and stored indoors. It sits outside in a storage yard all summer with the stern getting baked by the UV rays of the sun. I have a universal cover on the boat that comes a good ways down past the rub rails...

Here is how the OEM Stern Seats look and how the Bimini folds to hang on those hooks.

1988 190 Tournament Show and Shine - documentation photos

This past weekend I finally finished up a couple odds and ends to get my new-to-me 1988 Grady-White 190 Tournament in a good spot. I have been using this a boat tons on our local Lakes and will likely be heading out to the Great Lakes this weekend. After 2.5 months I have to say I love the way...

    Through Hull replacement

192, interesting that you are getting the .036 measurement. The last set of thru-hulls I did on my Grady was with Moeller tubing. I just bought their 14" length and cut the sections I needed from it. I still have some stock from that and will check it's thickness once I am back home.

    Through Hull replacement

Could or you used a tube with a thinner wall thickness. The Moeller tubes and raw tube stock I get from McMaster Carr has noticeably thicker walls than the Sea Dog / Sea Choice tubes. McMaster-Carr 1 inch O.D. x .032 wall thickness x 3 feet long = #8950K792 1 1/4 inch O.D. x .032 wall...

    Through Hull replacement

192, Nice Job. When I did mine this winter I used O-Rings around the flare as that is the way I learned on Whalers. That said yours looks very clean...I think I will do them that way in the future. A couple things I noted.. I found out the hard way that using 5200 can bite you in the butt...

    192 Tournament - is 150 HP enough?

While I know the hull is rated for a 200hp motor I found the 1999 Yamaha Saltwater Series II 150 on my 190 Tournament hull to have plenty of power. The boat planed off no problem with 4 adults and 3 kids. It also ran at a top end of 47.1mph turning a Yamaha Stainless Steel 3 blade 19"p prop with...

Well maybe not the worst fear realized on my 190 Tournament

Re: Worst fear realized on my 190 Tournmanet Urgh, Jay that sucks. I know that feeling as I went through it with my first Whaler. I ended up having to rebuild the entire deck on that boat. It was a learning experience for sure. I feel lucky that I found my transom dry when the motor was...

Removing an old name off the hull

I removed my old stripes, decals and registration numbers using a hair dryer. I took me a about and hour to do the whole boat. I used acetone and a razor blade to clean up any gooey residue. You can wax and polish all you want but that will never get rid of the ghosting. You will need to wet...

First outing in the 190 Tournament

Thanks Jay! I spent this weekend cleaning things up and I stripped the old Decals off as well as the stripes, added new registration numbers, a name on the hull side and a new style Grady-White Logo.

    Recommendation for a buffer

Are you just looking for a "buffer" to apply and remove waxes or are you looking for a polisher to make and keep things shiny? Below is a write up I posted on a Whaler forum....it's a long answer but should help..

    It must be Spring because

Looking good Jay! I see you got the stainless cup holders eh? I just stripped the wood off my Tournament yesterday, sanded it all and am now varnishing it.....only 10-12 more coats to go!

First outing in the 190 Tournament

magicalbill, the run was on Lake Orion in Lake Orion, Mi... The Grady will make it up to Frankfort this summer for boating on Lake Michigan and Crystal Lake. It will also spend time in Grand Haven, Muskegon and Whitehall too. The 23' Walkaround Boston Whaler (link in signature) lives up in...

First outing in the 190 Tournament

Well this past weekend things finally started looking like spring was here in Michigan to stay. With the forecast calling temps in the mids 60's and clear sunny skies, I pulled the new-to-me 190 tournament out for it's first outing. This was actually the first time I had ever had this boat in...
