    2003 Grady 232 Gulfstream

I think it will be under-powered. I own a Gulfstream with twin 175hp and it is more than adequate, but not a beast even though it gets out of the hole well. I think you need at least a 250hp with a single, and that would be right on the lower limit. They are great boats with plenty of room...

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

I'm guessing all of the spot corrosion is from paint blisters that trapped moisture and caused crevice corrosion due to lack of oxygen. I guess the perfect solution would be naked aluminum with good air flow and no contact points, but that is not feasible since the thin walled tanks need some...

Is it possibly the hydraulic fluid reservoir for Bennett trim tab pump?

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

Your points about labor to remove the tank compared to the expense of a new tank are well advised. De-lamination from improper prep of the aluminum is a valid concern also. In doing further research I see some people advise against even paint due to potential blistering (I believe the Grady...

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

I'll give you the logic behind my advice. These aluminum fuel tanks most likely failure mode appears to be corrosion caused by moisture on the top surface or moisture trapped in the contact points. If you have a tank with no holes and only minor pitting that still has it's sealing integrity...

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

Hookup, elaborate on what problem you have with this advice.

    268 Islander Fuel Tank Replacement

If your tanks are in good shape with no holes, clean them well and encapsulate the entire tank in one layer of fiberglass and West System epoxy. An experienced boat builder gave me that advice. He said they will last forever with that protection.

    265 Express AC

If you are always going to be on shore power when you use the AC, have you considered a portable roll around unit with the dryer vent type of exhaust port? Much cheaper (less than $1000) and you can let the condensation drain into the sink. I've seen people use these and just stand them on the...

    Additive to gas tank

I have HPDI engines, and I can attest that Techron fuel treatment has cleared up fuel related issues for me. I was just about to open up my high pressure fuel system and replace the tiny filters (most often referred to as "mystery filters"), but as a last ditch effort I tried a double dose of...

1999 Gulfstream with twin HPDI 200's on a factory Armstrong bracket.

I have a 1993 Gulfstream with 2006 175 hp HPDIs and from memory I get 30 mph at 3900 RPM, around 2.2 mpg under good conditions and moderately loaded boat. Tops out at 48 mph and 5900 RPM. I'll go and double check my props and see what height the motors are mounted. The OP numbers are impressive.

    Explorer 24 ( 1992) Fuel Tank

I would at a minimum pull the hatch over the tank and inspect it. I pulled my 1993 tank last summer and it had more corrosion on the top than the bottom. The corrosion on the top was happening mostly where the top braces touched the tank, so you may need to remove the braces to see. There...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

Fire93Medic, did you finally resolve the problem? Was it a bad injector?

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

I haven't replaced the metal can filter, but will do that soon. If the VST is not getting proper fuel supply, I would think the VST pump pressure (around 40 psi) would drop. It has to be monitored with a fuel pressure guage on the Schrader valve. But one would also think, the high pressure...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

I'm having a similar issue on both of my 2006 175 HPDI motors. I was sure it was a fuel issue on the VST filters, but I changed those and problem persisted. You've gotten further than me on the filter changes, I've yet to change the mystery filters. My motors both stall around 4000 RPM, and...

    No top end power

What type of engines, 2 stroke, direct injection 2 stroke, or 4 stroke? I have a problem with similar symptoms on my direct injection 2 strokes that I suspect is one of the "mystery filters" in the direct injection system. I replaced my VST filters first and that did not fix my problem. On...

Installing Swim Ladder - what type of caulking needed?

Over drill the holes (maybe 1/8" larger), tape the bottom of the the holes and fill with epoxy from West System. After the epoxy dries, drill the correct hole size. This will provide a 1/16" epoxy barrier around the core material to help prevent water intrusion. Install the ladder with a...

    Vinyl Paint

I've used the vinyl paint from Rustoleum on a leaning post, and on the tops of my seats. So far I'm blown away how good it looks and how it is holding up. It has only been a few months, but more time will tell. I would not hesitate to use on the arm rest.

Black/Chrome 228 Rub Rail - best fit or even OEM?

I installed the stainless cavity back rail from Taco (I think that's who made it) over my existing Grady blue insert. It wasn't too hard to install. It took about 4 hours. It looks great and is easy to polish out or repair as Dennis mentioned. I've got one good ding from where wind pushed me...
