I have a 1999 228 and mine is dry as well. Replaced the trim tabs and rebedded the swim platform. All the areas I drilled and filled, were in great shape. Being that the 228 doesn’t have the dreaded band cap, I think this models transom is less of an issue.

Not sure why you are taking the lid off? I have replaced my pump on my 228 a few times and never took the lid off. Undo the the lift arm and then the screws around the top.

It does go underneath, and I used life caulk to adhere it to the inside of the bracket. I do not have any pictures at the moment, but will see if I can get a few.

It needs the break in it to get through the hole.

Here is a picture of where my transducer is placed it is about 7” up from the center of the hull and placed in front of the intake so it has clean flow going over it.

I have a 228 and installed a 175hw and it reads most things at any speed. I will take pictures tomorrow of where I installed it and post them.

I have a garmin 1242xvs in my console of my 228 and it is great. I had two 9” screens on another boat and it worked well, but I prefer the 12” screen much more.

I carry a spare prop and a extra nut that goes on in case I drop one. I've spun a prop way off shore and it was not fun.
