    Toilet for 2005 seafarer 228

We have a Thetford 100 series porta potti in our '98 228. Nice to have for the wife/kids, and it takes about 5 minutes to empty, clean and refill every other month or so. Half bottle of aqua-chem each time I fill it up, and it's odor and problem free. Making your gals hang off the side...

    OX66 Alarm Question

Good idea on the adhesive. I know in the past on different motors, I've used a marine grease like 2-4-C to help gaskets "stick" to covers while installing things. But I was hesitant because I didn't have a manual handy and know some gaskets they want you to install dry. I'm really glad I...

    OX66 Alarm Question

I just replaced the poppet valve on my '99 225 OX66 a few weeks ago. Replacement was <$30 on ebay, and it took me maybe 30-45 minutes. Like a lot of outboard repair, it's easy in concept, but tough/frustrating while you're doing it because things are hard to reach. My first attempt to put...

Converting 228 aux fuel tank area to storage

Nice, OMER. That was exactly what I had in mind when I started thinking about this. I need a little more practice with my router first! This looks like a good winter project.

Converting 228 aux fuel tank area to storage

I didn't even think of using that whole cover as the lid. I'll have to consider that. Even though my boat is now >20 years old, it's so clean below deck it really looks like there's never been water in the bilge. I think I'd probably opt for a smaller sealed hatch, and keep that deck piece...

Converting 228 aux fuel tank area to storage

Howdy Grady owners/fans, I bought a 1998 Seafarer 228 this winter, and am already running into some "where do I store it" issues with new toys/gear that I'd like to store on board but get out of the way. Things like small inflatable tubes, a little grill and bait table, etc. I don't have a...

    New to me Seafarer

Congrats! I was looking for seafarers during the same time frame as you and think we might have both been checking out the same boats at times. Glad you finally found one to pull the trigger on.

    Off season peculiarities

Heyspike, there are a bunch of Grady 226/228s for-sale-by-owner on a site called powerboatlistings. FB marketplace had a few as well, but tended towards '80s model years. Never hurts to ask on hull truth either, but that's a bigger marketplace for center consoles and big budget stuff. I...

    Off season peculiarities

After buying a boat two weeks ago (Seafarer 228) after a 6-month search, my wife asked what I was going to do with all my free time in the evenings, now that I wasn't looking at boats-for-sale websites all evening. The answer apparently is: keep looking at boats-for-sale websites. She watches...

Seafarer bracketed w/Bimini vs no bracket and hardtop

I have bottom paint on my boat and don't worry at all about beaching it. My question was for boats without bottom paint. In the Grady demo videos they show these beautiful brand new shiny hulls up on the sand, and it half makes me cringe wondering if that's scratching the finish.

Seafarer bracketed w/Bimini vs no bracket and hardtop

For those without bottom paint...will you run your boat up on a beach or sandbar to unload the family? Does it scuff the gelcoat or wax? To the OP; someone mentioned the HDPI had issues. I believe that was mainly with the 250 and up. The 2000 HPDI is pretty highly regarded; but so is...

    Hard Top or Bimini

Thanks. I zoomed in on several pictures and it looks like the hard top attaches at about 8 different spots, so that's potentially 32 holes to patch, possibly on different surface types (non skid, smooth, potentially in a cooler box?) This is all hypothetical at this point; just didn't want...

    Hard Top or Bimini

I'm currently shopping for similar year seafarer as well, however due to my fishing preferences, I am trying to avoid a hard top and go for the bimini. I understand the advantages of a hardtop for running offshore or doing a lot of trolling, but I mainly cast artificial in calmer waters and...
