240 Offshore Leaking windows

Did this one too. Completely removed the frames and glass. Took it to an auto glass shop and had the glass rebedded with butyl(?) Reinstalled with 4000 sealant. Some of the screws completely missed going through any fiberglass so I rebuild the edges with epoxy. Be sure to use sealant on all the...

Grady White off white Spectrum patch paste # 553802K

Second on the white base with tiny brown. Mix a tiny batch and smear onto the area without hardener. After you match color, make a larger batch and add the harder. Don’t go too dark, can’t lighten it but easy to make darker.

    Fishbox lid for '95 Gulfstream?

Been a while since visiting since I sold the 95 Islander. Fought this issue for many years with all hatches. If it is just the fish box lids, how about having some built out of King Starboard and never do it again. Sea foam Color matches well and there is a textured surface. My Hydrasports...

    Need some fiberglass repair advice/guidance

The problem is caused by the lack of gelcoat on the thin bottom edge of the lids. Moisture wicks up into the substrate, freezes and pops the filler used to build the panels. I found very minimal glass in these panels and many voids (which hold moisture)in mine when I ground the edges out in...

    268 ISLANDER STERN PORT BUCKET

You could construct a rectangular box out of starboard (HPDE) with a rectangular cutout in the top panel but contoured to match the hatch lip at the top. Might take a bit of router work to fit over the gutter, try it out of some scrap plywood first.

Add tilt trim to stock hydraulic steering

Did this on the Islander. Has to drill a larger hole for the tilt mechanism. I borrowed a 4 inch hole saw, mounted a temporary center board for the center bit. Hydraulic lines hooked right up. Pulling the wheel was a difficult part as well, had to borrow a wheel puller for that one too. It is...

Islander 268 Port Stern Well Insert

I had this model while back. Two options. 1. Cut out a 3 inch section about 3 inches from the bottom and use this piece to “scab” over the new splice on the inside using stainless fasteners and some epoxy. I don’t think just epoxy will hold as it is an HDPE type of material which doesn’t glue...

Busted for riding on the bow

Last summer, August, grandaughter, 8 years old, and her mother were on the cushions on top of the cabin on the 268 and we were warned by the NJ State Police to move off the bow. We were in a no wake zone, about 10 mph at the time. No ticket issued. I can totally understand if we were moving...

    Building new hatches/ transom door

Looks good, i have seen some leave a void around the screw holes then fill with epoxy resin. Be sure to seal the deck screws with some 4000 when installing. I had to reinforce the deck against the rear seat, screws for the rear panel didn 't hit anyting, poor deck cutout. How were the...

    257 electronics box

I mounted my 741 in the acrylic door. It still hinges so I have access to the box as well. It is a touch screen so I wanted it more accessable. The prior unit was mounted inside and was covered but I always had the cover up. I like this setup better.

    Will a Garmin 741xs fit in 2000 208 e-box?

This is what I did and it is a great setup for me. No cover up in the air, direct access to the screen, still have the box for the stuff. But it is a 268 Islander. ][/img] [/img]

    My fight with the pulpit

It seems like every couple years I am patching and gelcoating the pulpit. After lots of pondering, I have come to the conclusion that the area around the lift ring / cleat, was allowing moisture to wick up from the anchor locker. I had previously removed and sealed the top surface andit looked...
