Midship bulkhead, what do you make of this? Islander 268

This last sentence is probably the best advice. I am definitely picking the boat apart.. the issue is I dont want to sink a bunch of time, money ,and effort accessorizing a boat that is foundationally compromised. I was not at my best when looking at the boat (late night before) so I didnt...

Midship bulkhead, what do you make of this? Islander 268

Thought this a curious find in my new to me Islander 268. What do you all make of the bonding between the hull and bulkhead? Neither side appears a to be bonded and one has foam in there…seems to have been this way from the factory. I was worried at first, but it looks to have been this way...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Wow, so you had some visible cracking there and she still wasn’t ready??.. that’s crazy.. or was that later on? Good on them though for doing what is right. I’m in Florida.. I want to do some long range trips, Bahamas. Tortugas. Etc. I am all for prolonging the inevitable as long as I am safe on...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Good idea pulling the run rail back… will I be able to see any transom in there or is it covered between the deck cap and hull? There def is a little flexing of a few millimeters at that joint where the caulk is.. I jump up and down on the skeg really hard I can watch it move some. It’s not a...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Only evidence I see is the flexing at the joint where that caulking is separating.. I would love to kick the can down the road if at all possible, but I also need to know the boat is structurally sound and able to take a beating offshore. My logic of pulling the motors and bang plate was to peek...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

Boat does in fact have the aluminum bracing bolted to the stringers and ran through the transom. as a 1996 I do not believe there is Greenwood XL. Such a shame they didn't take the time to glass over the transom...makes no sense. The more familiar I get with this hull the less I like about it...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

With me jumping up and down on the motors giving her hell there is a few millimeters of movement at the seam I have circled. I cant find any other signed of a failing transom (motor bolts/washers seem flush without any play in them, stringer knees tied to transom look good from the inside. (will...

    Islander transom/bang plate/woes

About to be pulling the motors and removing the bang plate from the Islander. 1995 vintage…what do you expect to see under there? I do have a few millimeters of movement in the circled area on the pictures. A few questions… There is the angle aluminum piece and a separate (fiberglass?) cover...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

You have PM, I am currently working on port side drains/scupper/thru hulls...soon to be tackling the starboard side. Had a few questions about where you cut your access plate under the rear door

    Strengthening/reinforcing hatches

Well we had about a solid week of rain and the ugly really showed itself. Several of the hatch lids became saturated and held water and became very soft. Hatches are removed and taking them to a fiberglass guy for a quote. Going to farm this job out as I have deck drain tube and thru hulls to...

    Grady 205 Biggest GPS?

I def will be doing a new dash panel, problem is I dont have as much real estate as I would like. If you look back to Hookup1's post, that is what I am working with. Kind of a split dash set up that was designed far before any of these big screens were the norm

    Strengthening/reinforcing hatches

True, and I assume of the hatch lid has flex, the coring likely is wet. So I'm already cutting a corner just reinforcing it.. lol

    Strengthening/reinforcing hatches

This is what I was hoping to hear. I can pick up a 4x8 sheet of 5/8" marine ply locally. Doing further research it looks like there is coring in these lids, a thin wood of some sort. Hoping I can simply grind away the gel coat underneath and add the coring to sure it up without needing to...

will do as soon as I get off of work (and if this rain ever stops)

Fish Box Lids / Hatch: Has Anyone Ever Opened one of these up. I'm shocked by the core material.

Resurrecting this thread as I just picked up a 1996 268 islander that has a few soft hatch lids (Bilge access/rear seat, port corner hatch, and port fish box/livewell lid. At first glance these lids don't appear to be cored.. How did you go about removing the bottom skin> The lids seem to be...

    Strengthening/reinforcing hatches

I tried the search function and have only come up with repairs for chipped hatch lids.. 1996 islander. The bilge hatch lid, port side rear hatch lid, and port side livewell lid are all a bit soft. There is no coring on these lids to tear out and repair. Going over ideas on how to...
