    20' vs 22'

I have a 1996 226 Seafarer with a 1997 200 HP Yamaha 2 Stroke carbed. I top out at about 40 mph at 5300 rpm with flat water. I get 2 to 2.3 mpg at 26 to 30 mph depending on conditions. No hard top. I really the open deck area of the 22'.

    Insulating Fishbox Covers

You could try bubble wrap. It won't absorb water and it's easy to store away/clean when not needed.

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

If you decide to drill, you may consider using a left handed drill bit. Sometimes you get lucky and the part unthreads itself while drilling.

    fuel gauge inop

I had a similar problem with my 226. It's probably the float. First do the wire test as mentioned to verify your gage is working. The old sending unit floats have two magnets 'glued' to them. As the fuel level changes, the magnets pass over reed switches which close at different heights...

weight of 1997 Yamaha Saltwater series II

I have the 1997 Yamaha catalog. The 200 and 175 hp engines were carbed. The 225 and 250 hp were EFI. Assuming you have a 175 or 200, the catalog list the weight at 419 pounds without the prop. The 225 and 250 are 494 pounds without prop.

    Fuel Gauage not working

If the Yamaha gage shows bars but they don't change will fuel level changes, it's probably the tank sending unit. I believe you can disconnect the two wires from the sending unit and touch them together. Gage should read full or empty, can't remember. I replaced my sending unit and tore the...

    gas tank removal/inspection

How did you apply the 4 psi? Did you plug off all inlets and outlets and then apply pressure and close off inlet air. If you did it this way and the pressure gage held 4 psi, you don't have a leak in the tank. The fuel filters can corrode and leak as mentioned above. The filler or vent...

    Draining 4Stroke engine oil

You may try poking a hole in the bottom of the filter with an awl before removing to make it easier to catch the oil. If you use the nitrile disposable gloves, you can get a grip on the filter to remove and then slip the glove off and stuff the filter into it all in one move.

    fuel fill o-ring

I think it may be a special size. A -223 is a little big and a -222 is tight. I put the -223 on and it is loose but works. When I get around to it, I'll try the -222.

    five blade props

Hill Propellers If this is Hill Propellers form Santa Ana California on the west coast, then I would tend to believe what they tell you. I've used them in the past when I use to take my old boat to the river and tear up props. I forget the main guys name but he new his stuff. I'd go in and...

    Towing weight for Seafarer 226

I have a 1996 226 without a hardtop. I tow it with a 1/2 Chevy truck and 20 miles is the farthest I trailered it. It works okay. I wouldn't want to add any more weight or climb a lot of hills. Trailer brakes are a must. I think the newer trucks can handle 10,000 lbs.

    Fuel tank Senders

You could try using an impact driver that is used a lot on motorcycles for removing phillip head screws. You hit it with a hammer as you try to rotate and it helps to prevent the driver from slipping out. The impact also helps break up the corrosion sometimes. A none metalic hammer head would...
