Insuring an Older Grady - Paralleling another thread.

Do any of you have an "agreed value" insurance policy on your older Grady (mine is an '87 Gulfstream)? If so, who is your insurer and did they require any sort of exceptional conditions.... like a survey or the like? My insurance is due, shortly, and I'd like to make sure I have look at all...

IMHO....on a boat, *any* sort of redundancy is a good idea. Plan for the worst scenario and you won't be disappointed.....

    How much is your insurance?

The captain's license is a two edge sword. On the one hand, it gives you no more benefit (at least with my company) than a USPS certificate. On the other, the insurance company begins to suspect commercial use of your boat (which would render the policy null and void). Go figure....

*DO* check weights. ONe of the reasons I went with the Suzukis is that the 4S weighed less than the original 2S Yamahas and I got to reclaim half a transom for storage by removing the 2 cycle oil tanks and plumbing.

Polishing Hardtop Frame -- '97 Gulfstream

Do NOT use bronze wool OR steel wool on aluminum, unless your desired end result is dissimilar metal corrosion. Use aluminum wool or a Scotch Brite type product that does not employ aluminum oxide as the abrasive.... http://www.palmereng.com/wool_aluminum.htm

    How much is your insurance?

IMHO, the most important phrase is "agreed value." If you and the insurer have not "agreed," then the amount of insured value will be decided at the time of loss and the insurer will tell you what the boat is worth.

    Trailer Bearings

True....Here's the proper filling procedure: Q. How do I check the grease level in the hub? A. Grease can be added to the hub through an easily accessible grease fitting located in the center of the Bearing Buddy® piston. Lubricant level can be checked by pressing on the edge of the...

    Trailering Sailfish and Gulfstream

Go measure your boat....I'm betting that (1) if you measure over the rub rails you will exceed 8'-6" and that (2) virtually every trailer of a boat that long is going to have guide-ons, which will exceed the inviolable 8'-6" rule, too....

Oversize Trailering in NC could cost you BIG BUCK$!

I cut and pasted this response I made to another query as a new thread because of the gravity of the situation. If you are towing in or through NC you need to know that anybody trailering a boat is a HUGE RED FLAG for being stopped. There is a meeting between interested boaters...

    Trailering Sailfish and Gulfstream

If you are towing in or through NC you need to know that anybody trailering a boat is a HUGE RED FLAG for being stopped. I don't know how they enforce laws with respect to out-of-staters, but I can assure you that if you have a NC license and you don't have all of what they are looking for...

Sounds like you have this sort of spindle.... http://www.championtrailers.com/spindles_n_parts.html I had these and they never performed properly.... always tending to heat up and then suck water in at the boat launch. I took the original "spindle-lube" dust cap off and...

Replacing Fuel Fill lines Offshore 24?

If those lines are original, then you will probably want to replace the original fill and vent lines as well. I began to notice an odor of fuel when filling up. Upon checking, I found the original fill lines (and vents) in my '87 232G were cracked and incredibly hard.
