    HELP!! Cabin window replacement

I have a '94 24' Explorer that I cracked one of the slide windows on the side of the cabin. It seemed a simple job to replace, but I can't figure out a way of getting the window out of the track (or a new one in). Has anyone had any experience with replacing one of these ? Also do you have a...

225 HP Mercury Outboard Overheating problem

I have a 225 HP Mercury outboard on my 1994 24' Explorer. I assume the engine is original (I bought the boat used - approx 850 hrs) My problem occurs when I get up on plane and am going along at about 3000 rpm. The temp sensor starts to rise and eventually the alarm goes off. I shut the engine...

Deck Plate repair over forward gas tank -24' Explorer

OK here's an update on my deck plate repair. I removed the deck plate from over the forward gas tank. The plywood that was laminated to the underside was all random sized pieces with two cross braces of plywood strips laid on end. The whole underside was covered with a loosely laid fiberglass...

Cockpit Trim Restoration - 1993 Explorer

Had the same problem with '94 Explorer.. removed some of the strips and re-laminated with similar woodgrained formica.. then I found an easier solution..use the Penetrol paint additive.. you may have to reapply it from year to year, but sure beats replacing or re-laminating wood strips .

    282 trim tab Reservoir location

In my '94 Explorer, it's inside the cabin, in the starboard side storage well. Check your compression fittings while you're there, mine leaked and filled the forward bilge with hydraulic fluid.

    Sonar Transducer

I've also noticed that there is some of the ablative bottom paint on the transducer.. Can that be causing a problem too ? .. can it be safely removed without harming the transducer ?

Deck Plate repair over forward gas tank -24' Explorer

no.. I'm talking about on the underside of the deck plate itself. There are two pieces of plywood laid on edge across (ie: from starboard to port) the bottom side of the deckplate intended to strengthen the plate. The plywood core of the plate is thicker in the center than along the edges. The...

    Sonar Transducer

Thanks to everyone for the great input ! This is my second season with this boat, so I don't know if the previous owner was experiencing the same problems. I do know that the transducer does swing up quite easily, so that may be the problem occuring at higher speeds. I'll also check the...

Deck Plate repair over forward gas tank -24' Explorer

Thanks for the great advice !.. one other thing with regard to the cross member supports.. it appears that they are hardly (if at all ) secured to the plywood core.. just laid in place and covered with the cloth... in fact, in the area of the thinner plywood (around the edges of the plate) there...

Deck Plate repair over forward gas tank -24' Explorer

The wood in the center of the plate is thicker than that along the sides..so are you saying I should do the same ? ...use multiple pieces rather than one solid piece of plywood ?

    Sonar Transducer

the transducer is on a swivel... so I guess it could swing aft. Is it supposed to be static ?

    Sonar Transducer

I've got an old (to say the least !) Lowrance GPS/ Sonar unit LMS-350A on a 24' Explorer. When I get up on plane, I'll be traveling along getting reasonable depth readings ( 4-10') when all of a sudden I'll be reading 180' - 3xx' ! ... BTW, I've got a 225HP O/B and the transducer is transom...

Deck Plate repair over forward gas tank -24' Explorer

I have a 24" Explorer (1994) with a 24"x52" deck plate over the forward fuel tank in the area of the helm. When you'd walk on the plate, it would sag a little, so I took it off for inspection. I found that the cross braces had let go from the plywood core. (Actually I don't know if they were...
