1970 atlantic weekender stringers

Hi all, I'm a new Grady boat owner of a 1970 Atlantic Weekender 19' Got a good deal on this boat ($50) for boat and trailer.The floor is bad also the transom needs repair. I've done this type of repair before so no big deal. What I need to know, are the stringers made of wood also? Also we have a Mercury 115 hp outboard on it will this be enough power for the boat (speed wise? ) I know it won't be no speed demon.

I'm pretty sure also, that there wood covered with glass.Any Idea on how many there are?
 
on a 19 footer....probably a pair of 3/4 ply stringers on each side of the keel, plus a few bulkheads.....but I've seen some small boats (relatively speaking) with just one stringer on each side as well.
 
Here is our 1970 Atlantic Weekender. We live in Illinois down by St.Louis, Mo. This was in northern Il. We had to dig through about 3 ft of ice and snow to get her out.

3 feet of ice? Maybe you found Noah's ark???? Do some carbon dating....

I like those old lapstrake Gradys...a guy near my house has an early 70's CC I've been eying for a while now...but its not for sale....he still uses it

I've got a '78 Overnighter with a 115 Evinrude and it performs fairly well given the hull's weight and relatively low HP. She'll cruise at 22 knots and WOT is 26. When I bought the boat 3 years ago I thought it would struggle getting on plane but it actually pops up much quicker than expected without the engine struggling. In a perfect world I'd have a 175-200 on the back, but this will do for now.
 
We took our boat out last week end, to see if she still floats. The mercury ran very good 115hp it ran wot about 32mph. Didn't have gps with us to see if speedometer was correct. Love the ride she gave us. I know for sure now that I will definitely rebuild/restore her.

Looks like a nice boat and a nice project. I would suggest you become very familiar with the Grady White website. It has a wealth of information including archives of old catalogs. Their Customer Service has always been the best and they have been very helpful with every question I have had.

Good luck and keep us updated with pictures as you progress.
 
Thanks Bob I've been to their site but haven't talked with them yet, but plan to do so.
