I have 88 tournament I lost a cylinder in the motor.and I am debating on repowering are getting another rig like a capehorn.I was taking to get the transom rrbuilt this fall.I would just like some opions if the boat is worth it.I was planning on keeping for at least 4 yrs

I live 45 miles from the Cape Horn plant. I am a boat person and have owned 6 Cape Horns in the past 20 years. They are the most solid boats I have ever owned. I have never heard of a transom failure or structural problem. They are bare bones, not fancy and older models pre- 1994 can be wet. I just purchased my first Grady, 1994 Tournament always kept in storage. I am very pleased and it is first class. Do not spend too much on Grady if there are major problems. I'll be glad to answer any questions about Cape Horn.

Unfortunately, I don't think you will have too much value there. It sounds like the outboard needs some serious repair and the transom needs to be redone. Last year I purchased a 1994 tournament 192 with a 94 evinrude ocean pro 200 hp for 7k. Purchase was in North Carolina. Boat came with a trailer ready to go. Everything, and I mean everything, works on the boat, down to the cockpit lights and horn. I passed on 2 late 80s tournaments here in NC that were powered with yamahas that were selling for about $5,500, asking. They were claimed to be fully operational with new fuel tanks and no transom issues. I chose the newer hull. With what you are describing, I would just take an UNEDUCATED guess and say maybe $3,000 for your rig, but who knows??? I know prices vary greatly depending on where you live. Also, you may find someone who wants a project and is willing to pay more. Good luck with whatever you decide!! I know it can be difficult since what you have is a great boat.
