I am looking at purchasing a 1991 Gulfstream 230 with twin 1991 Yamaha 150s. Could you give me some suggestions on what to look for in this model boat other than the usual transom, stringers etc... were these models prone to any type of problems or motors. Of course, I will have it completely checked out before purchase. I will be using this boat to dive off of and fish in the Gulf.

The only advice is to have a good surveyor go over the boat. You have to go into this with your eyes wide open. The motor and hull are 28 years old. It has wood throughout (transom, stringers and decking). You likely will find issues that you will have to address. Look for any owner added items where he drilled into the boat - these are usually areas where water gets in. Use a moisture meter on the transom and look for water intrusion or rot. Check the decks to see if they are solid.
