1999 Grady 180 and 2000 Yamaha 100HP Questions

I am looking at purchasing a 1999 a 180 Sportsman with 2000 4 stroke 100 HP Carburated Yamaha and had a few questions. Is this engine a bit small for the 180? I know the 180 rated for 150.

My main use would be Salmon fishing, Cocktail/Sightseeing day cruises w/family and pulling kids on the innertube on Puget Sound/Pacific NW.

Any issues with the 4-stoke 100 Carburated era engine from Yamaha vs. a fuel injected model?

Any idea what this era 180 sportsman and motor are worth? It has a t-top, livewell, washdown, trim tabs, duel axel trailer but no other options that I am aware of. No electronics, swim step, kicker moter etc. Engine has 250 hours and looks clean. I say it's worth 15-16K tops but would like to hear from others.

Used 180's are a rarity in the PNW and when they are for sale people try to charge a arm and leg for 17'-20' Grady's and Whalers. Thanks,
 
It's worth about 12-14K depending on hours and condition. 100HP is too little power for that boat. It's a heavy 18' and minimum for what you want to do is 115 HP. There is nothing wrong with the motor but chances are it has been worked hard all its' life. You can take it for a sea trial but do it with 4 people aboard and then imagine towing a tube behind it. Chances are you will find it underpowered.
 
100hp? I would definitely say underpowered. Great boat, I have a '99 with a 150 ox66, and would not go with less than a 130. That being said, I know Grady dresses them with F115's but I would certainly not go with less than that. From my experience the 115 is a little underpowered with 3 200+ adults. Just my .02 cents.
 
I agree with Greatty...I have a 2000 Sportsman with 150hp OX66...it's a great but heavy boat. I would not go less than 130hp...they are sold with 115s, but I have never seen one with 100hp
 
Take a look at GregB's 180 on this site. Brand new leftover F150 and new(er) trailer for $18,500 I think. You won't find a better buy. You'll just have to travel to see/get it.
 
I have a 99 with a 130HP SWS 2S. To me its a great match. Plenty of speed and power without the weight of the 4S.

There is no reason the hull should not be in great condition and should meet all of your needs. I think a 100HP will be greatly underpowered, but try it and see.

One of the reasons these boats tend to be pricey used, is that there are not that many that come up for sale, and other 18 foot options simply don't compare. At least that was what I found when I looked. While the 180 is actually on 17'10" it is a BIG 18 footer. Just look at competing 18 foot offerings, even some 19 and 20, and you will see what I mean.

I can tell you there is no way I would part with mine for $14K. That makes the deal posted here for the 4S and new boat a real find.
 
My 180 with a 150 runs 45 mph and has no trouble pulling a skier. I test ran one with a 130 and it ran right around 40-41. I'd be leery of a 100 hp motor....these are heavy boats.

I agree with everyone's assessment; for an 18' boat, it rides like its bigger.
