1999 Sailfish 273 vs the 2001 sailfish 282

Hello from a newbie on the forum. I have been enjoying a lot of good info here,and have narrowed my boat search down to the Grady White Sailfish
after 32 years with my Mako 230 wa. Due to budget I am focused on 1998-2003ish.
I am zeroing in on two. A model 272 (loa 27'4 weight 5,500 dry) with twin yamaha 2006 lf250 trx 4 strokes (1500hrs) OR a model 282 (loa 27'4" dry weight 5800) with twin Yamaha 2001 hpdi 200's (1500hrs).
Is there alot of diferences in the two models?
Which of the two engines would you prefer on your sailfish??

I have a 282 with 250 Yamaha 4 strokes and it is a very nice combination. I recently repowered from F225 and the added power is great. This past summer I helped a friend cruise a new to him 1999 272 with 200 HPDIs about 60 mile on his maiden voyage. The boats are very similar inside and out. They are also very similar from an operating perspective. I am a previous owner a Seafarer that was powered with an 200 HPDI.I always had great luck with the engine and really liked the acceleration that the engine delivered. The twin HPDI on the Sailfish gave it very respectful power and top end. The 282 has fuel capacity of 220 and the 272 has a bit less with 202. Good luck

Do you have an idea of the avg. crusing milage with f250s and 202 fuel capacity?

I had a 2000 Sailfish with 225 Merc Optis. I loved the boat. Great mix of fishing and family in that size platform.
