Hello all, we are newbies to the forum.
Would like to install a windlass on 20' Overnighter but unsure if bow pulpit or anchor roller is they way yo go. We are looking for the bet value but also the best process for installation, and use. Are there retrofit kits available for either?

You or somebody will have to do the labor either for a pulpit or roller. The Grady pulpit runs about $1500 but a good hinged anchor roller will run under $200. The windlass will be anywhere from 500 to 800 for that boat. Add labor for wiring, mounting the roller, mounting the windlass, modifing the rode locker and cover and you will see how quickly the costs add up.

You may not have room on your model to add an anchor roller and windlass and may need the pulpit to accomodate both with space. It really depends on the windlass and style you choose. Mounting both the windlass and having an anchor stored on the roller will be tight, not to mention you need space to mount the roller which will be to the bow of the boat. To do it correctly I'd go with the pulpit, but that will increase cost, just make sure you overhang the bwo enough with the roller, otherwise your anchor will swing and hit the bow on the way up if your rocking a little. If you find a roller that gives you enough clearence that might be the cheaper option granted you have the space. Decide what windlass you wish to add and see what room you have left and go from there would be my advice.
