200 HP Motor Too Short For Grady?

Hi All,
I put a 2003 Yamaha HPDI 200 hp. on my 1997 Adventure 208. While at the shop, the mechanic told me that the shaft is too short for the boat, which surprised me, as it is a 25" shaft and didn't look noticeably short.
I measured and the cavitation plate is roughly three and a half inches above the bottom, although it could be mounted on the last bolt to lower it an inch or so.
Is this too low????? I'm not gonna put any more money into repairs if so......

Sounds like a 20 inch shaft. 20 has an L in the model number, and 25 has an X.

I have a 225 Suzuki with a 25" shaft on my 204c and it sits lower than yours.
I'd agree that it sounds like what you have is a 20" shaft. That would be too short.
If you lowered the engine enough to get the prop where it needs to be you'd drown the cowl.

I re-measured and both the transom and shaft are 25". Was erroneously told that the cavitation plate was the one above the real plate, so in reality it only sits like an inch above the transom (see pic).
Not ready to give up on the motor yet, any more info appreciated.

Shaft length looks fine to me.

I would be more worried about that prop. What's the diameter and pitch? It looks completely wrong for the boat to me.

Prop is 14.25 X 17, within recommended specs. Suggestions?
With the motor probably needing a high pressure fuel pump, it's the least of my problems...
