Hi ,
New to the forum And might be looking to become a GW owner thinking purchasing a 2000 228 seafare .
Currently have what is quite unicorn 1988 2380 Winner with full transom bracketed Yami F300 .
It’s an awesome boat cockpit is enormous nothing really wrong with it but it’s getting quite old looking for something that has a little bit better ride as I’m getting older tired of getting slammed in 1 to 3 foot waves..

Can a 228 handle an F300 ? How’s the ride quality? .
There’s a couple at my marina where I got my boat thinking of asking owners, if they’ll take me up for a ride..

Umm thx
Would have thought it could handle a 300?
Gonna go talk to the local Grady dealer and see what they say..

Well… the weight of a brand new Yamaha F300 is the same as a brand new F250 at 551 lbs for the 25” shaft version. Which per Google, is lighter than the 2004 Yamaha F225 that I have on my 2004 Grady White 228 Seafarer.

Exactly, I had an 2004 F225 on by boat before the 2017 F300 .. they made a 300 lighter .
Wondering if it’s about the horsepower and torque that the larger motor will provide the transom can hold it.
Plus, I had The Nizpro ECU flashed so it’s really a 330hp know ….

I guess I don’t see the point of needing a 300 hp outboard on a 228 Seafarer. Top speed with an F225 is right around 45 mph and I imagine an F300 is going to put you around 52-53 mph. The F250 will likely help you plane more easily/quickly and think that’s really all you need for that boat, but yes if there’s a couple at your local marina then ask if they can take you for a ride and see for yourself. Ask Ky Grady what his opinions are on the F250 as he just upgraded from an F225 a couple seasons ago I believe it was. I had a 21’ Arima before my Grady White and it was a terrible riding boat, especially in the 1’-2’ chop. The Grady White is a much heavier, smoother riding boat that slices through the chop as opposed to plowing through it and pounding. It’s obviously going to have its limitations as it’s only a 22’ boat, but I have zero complaints with my boat.

Thanks for the info I really appreciate it.
It’s just that I have purchased my F300 with digital controls just last year with only 500 hours on it and GW, I’m looking at has an older two stroke 225, which I don’t want.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, you're planning on taking your current F300 off your current boat and then putting it on the above mentioned 2000 Grady White 228 Seafarer?

The boat is 25 years old now and as stated before, the weight of your Yamaha F300 is less than the Yamaha F225 that I have on my boat currently. You could always reach out to Grady White or your local GW dealership if you're really that worried about it, but I'd just got for it, especially if you're going to do the outboard swap yourself. Good luck!
