Does anyone know what the original generator in a 2000 marlin would have been? Manufacturer, gas or diesel?

Likely a Kohler gas generator that had a carburetor.

Probably a Koehler 5e gas like I have in my 2003 Marlin. I’m removing mine and disposing of it because of the constant problems.

That's what I have in my 2000 Marlin. My electronic control box rusted away. It only has 50hrs. I would be interested if you want to sell to old unit for parts.

I found the generator to be a Fischer Panda (diesel). Looks like previous owner replaced the original, looks to be in bad shape

I don't recall an external control box - thought the gen was self contained with just the switch in the cabin. Some pics and more info could help.

This black box mounted on the front of the 5e is what I’m referring to. You can start and stop it from there.

Which electronic box do you need? The one on the front of the generator?
Yes there is a metal box with a starter rocker switch on it. Box is mounted to the right side of generator when looking down at the gen set..it will engage the starter motor of the gen set. It also has a volt meter anolog gauge on the box.

Ahh, I thought it was some type of standalone unit. Part of the genny, makes sense.
The Kholer was a fairly large unit. Must have been a bear to work on in the tight aft space.
