I Purchased a 2000 Seafarer 228g with a two stroke yamaha 225, I need to purchase a spare prop. The current prop has a few deep curls and I am going to have it rebuilt. I cant find any numbers other than
17-M .
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Bob

Get your current prop fixed and then use it as the spare. Invest some $$$ in a new/used Merc prop (Mirage Plus, Rev4 or Enertia) and you'll see improved performance and economy.

Merc has a prop calculator tool on their website that will tell you which props will work best.

2nd the vote here for a Mirage Plus in a 15.5 x 17. The Thunderbolt is basically the same prop, sold under the Quicksilver name. Just keep in mind you will need the hub kit, which is an additional $35 or so.

17-M is Yamaha's designation for a 15.5 x 17 Saltwater Series Prop.

These props are frequently available on eBay...keep an eye out there.

What would the estimate be for performance & fuel economy increase for these props. I've also got a '00 Seafarer with the same engine & prop. I'd be interested in the numbers to see if it would be worth my $$. Right now I top out at 42 mph & average about 2mpg.

My 01 226 w/ 200 HPDI topped out at 38 with the Yamaha Prop....with the Mirage I saw 41. The Mirage liked to run close to the surface...at WOT trimmed only slightly out I was at 5100 RPM...trim it up and it was almost like an overdrive gear....speed would pick up and RPMs would go to 5400.

thats the same prop I had on my 200 HPDI'S AND she topped out at 56rpm and ran very well with that prop.

I have a 228 with the Yammy F250 and yammaha's saltwater series 2 stainless...dont have the pitch memorized, but the boat tops out with my family of 5 on board at 43 and change and while cruising at 30 mph - 4200 rpm, the boat gets 3.1 mpg.

I am satisfied with the yammaha prop.
