2001 Grady 265 scupper reposition height

I’m having my transom rebuilt and want to reposition the scuppers to handle new 4 stroke weight.

How much higher is a good position to allow deck to drain and prevent scuppers from sitting wet?

I’ve read 1.5” to 2”

I’ll post the transom rebuild project soon.

How far below the cockpit floor are they currently?

The absolute closest you could go to the floor BOTTOM is determined by the scupper hose, fitting, and access. The hose is roughly 2" OD. So that's your bare minimum - although that would be really tight. Better to go a little further and get better drainage, too. But that's 100% your call.

HOWEVER... how much more do they actually weigh? Engines like Mercury's are quite light. Compare your weights... stack that amount on top of the engines and see what it does. Maybe it'll be fine?

Hey Doug, I having KKMI in Sausalito do the transom work. H and M Marine is doing the Suzuki repower next door to KKMI. The job manager at KKMI ( now known as Safe Harbor Sausalito) is a marine architect and really knows his stuff. Here’s a few pics so far. I’ll have a detailed photo drop when it’s all done. The transom was only partially wet on outer plywood, so didn’t need a full recore. KKMI using G10 for area around motor bracket and divinycell to keep it light. All drain holes and motor bracket holes sleeved with G10 tubing. The aluminum transom plate screws allowed water to leak into the out layer of plywood. The fiberglass between the boards saved the inner plywood from water engress. Btw, Grady did not use stainless ring clamps on any of the scupper hoses. That’s a big fail at the Grady factory!

My scuppers are fine with 200 Zuki’s on a 2001. Put SKR while you’re at it!

Have you had the boat since new? That's really, really odd, you know? But stainless CAN rust overtime - especially when left in very wet environments. Stainless only "stains less" than other metals.
 
Looking good. I have a 2000 with the 200 zukes. I did not raise the scuppers.
They are only low when full of gas and ice.

I've replaced the scuppers and hoses. Its a bitch.
I think you could move them up so the new bottom of the hole is where the top of the hole is currently. So ya 1.5 inches
 
Here are my scupper hoses. Cracking and showing rust. I cannot verify if they are original Grady, but don’t see why the previous owner would have swapped them out. I reached into bilge and all of them are missing clamps on both ends. Odd for sure and happy to get them replaced during the scupper relocation.

Looks tight in there!!

I cant wait to see the photo dump. When you say scuppers, are your talking about the twin side by side deck drain scuppers? Will they be pulling those out later?
