Just got a 2002 Sailfish with 2002 225 4 Strokes. The boat came with a 15-1/2 x 17 TL prop on the port engine and a 17-M prop on the stbd engine. What do the "T" and "M" designations mean. I believe the props are different diameters. I'm not sure. I posted this on THT and got some good feedback but still not clear on the meaning of T and M on Yamaha props. Also I was sent a link to a Yamaha performance bulletin on this same rig with SWS 15-1/4 x 19 props showing some decent numbers. Is anyone out there running a similar rig. I thing this boat may be underpropped as is with th 17P props. The 225's will rev up to 6100 wtih a full tank and 3 people on board. I welcome your comments. Thank You.

Don't know exactly which propellers you have. In general, the TL & M designations are for right hand and left hand rotation. The TL is for the contra rotation engine. The first number(15 1/2) refers to the diameter of the propeller while the second number is the pitch of the propeller.

I have SW Series II props on my 272 Sailfish(200 0X66's). Usually these props come in three diameters 15 1/4, 15 1/2 & 15 3/4 inches. The pitch of these props are usually sized in 2" increments such as 17, 19, 21, etc. I have 15 1/2 / 17 TL & M on my engines. TL on the port and M on S/B.

The diameter range is usually specified by Yamaha according to engine size, HP, etc. I have been told that a two inch change in pitch will result in an average 300-400 full throttle RPM change, with a general direction of the lower the pitch, the higher the RPM.

:D Thanks guys. The prop that concerns me is the one on the stbd motor. It says 17M on the side and I think it might be a 15-1/4" diameter. First chance I'll pull it off and read the size stamped on the inside of the hub. Coconut its good to hear your 282 runs well with the 19P props. I need a set of spares and will probably buy a pair of SWS 15-1/4 x 19 I think I'll get better MPG's with those. Its usually just the wife and me with a medium load on the boat, except when we do island runs in the summer. I read somewhere that the T series props were for the big V6's 250 and up the are supposed to have more blade area and cup than the M series but I can't find that post again.

Congrats on the "new" Grady.

Recommend you pull the props - great opportunity to make sure the splines are properly greased.

Take them to a local prop shop to find out what they are and, more importantly, what condition they are in. A good shop can put them on a machine that measures diameter and pitch, to see what the actual numbers are.

8) Will do Brian, this prop thing has become a small project to keep busy with while I wait for the wind to lay down and I can start ejoying the boat more. If this boat runs anything like my 25 Dolphin used to it will be great. That was a fast boat. I was dissapointed GW discontinued that model. With 200hp Yammies she would do 52-53 MPh at 1.5 MPG and it would raise fish all the time.

i have the same boat ('02 282 with F225's)
Currently running yami SWS 15x19 props and get 57-5800 rpm at WOT.
I'm very happy with this set-up.
I do have a spare set of Merc Mirage SS 15x19 which i'll try this summer.
I actually think that the Merc props will be a touch better than the yami's.
Both props are very similar in style, shape and size.

what's the max rpm with the 17 pitch props on your boat?
what's the best fuel economy/rpm at cruise?

I don't have a lot of data on the boat yet I've only run it twice since purchased. During the sea-trail it turned up to 6100 RPM's not sure what speed. I cruised it at 3800 RPM's and it did 23 - 24 MPH with 1.7 to 1.8 MPG's. I think the 19" wheels are a better choice, the speed and MPG's should improve even if I lose a bit of top end.
The Mirage are supposed to be very good props I was told the yammies are a copy of them I think you will be happy with them.
