I am looking at buying a 2004, Center Console with a 250hp hpdi. When two men stand in the stern, water comes in the scuppers. At rest with no one on board, the bullet of the engine is in the water, approx. 5" not up to the prop. Is this engine to heavy for this boat. How does the 250 hpdi compare in weight to the 225 4 stroke? Any performance informatin on this boat with 250 hpdi. Any problems with the 250 hpdi?
thanks,

What size CC? Unless it's '20 or less, 250 is not too much power/too heavy. The bullet in the water is a pretty common issue. Adding 400 lbs. the the transom (2 men) will effect how ther boat sits in the water.
A 225 & 250 2 stroke have the same block so the weight difference would be negligable. But a 2 stroke vs a 4 stroke, the 250 will be lighter, the performance will be better. The HPDI is an awesome engine and IMO, you'll be very happy w/ the performance and how it sits in the water vs. a 4 stroke. You will spend more on fuel, though.

the boat is the 22' CC. I understand on other forums that they are having problems with this setup?

What other forums?

If you and your buddy checked out if any water was coming in the boat when you stood back there, that was a good idea, to find out now not later, and if it bothers you, then pass. The V6 Yamaha Fs are very heavy too, not just big block HPDIs

The gear case nose cone in water has nothing to do with engine weight, although that's easy enough for one to believe. It has to do with Yamaha tilt range inadequacy in conjunction with a Grady transom angle too slanted and/or bulkhead interference, which Grady can fix readily but chooses not to. I bet Grady is waiting instead for Yamaha to improve the tilt range, when te hcows cvome come, just like waiting for an F175.

If the nose cone in water issue is a problem, find a boat where the engine clears the water.

Never buy a premium top dollar boat that doesn't meet your check list 99%, you will dump it in one season.
