2005 Gulfstream

Hello just joined and looking for some help. I’m very interested in a gulfstream 2005 with twin 2005 Yamaha 4s. Boat was surveyed and structurally. Everything seems to be in pretty good working order except for a few small miscellaneous issues. Question is how I know if the exhausts will have that shredded issue that a lot of them seem to have? Is there anyway to tell for sure if there is not too much rust throughout the exhaust system without completely taking the motor apart? Thanks in advance for any help.

Fluke: First, welcome aboard. I don't know those engines well enough to answer with any confidence. I would post in the General section where many very knowledgeable people will see your question and respond.

Personally, I would have thought that the surveyor would have picked up on this. But maybe it occurs in a place that requires disassembly.

Thanks for you response, the surveyor only took it out for a sea trial and the boat performed like. I would have to get a mechanic to drop the lower units and inspect and even then I don’t know if they would be able to see all the rust or if any going up through Tudda powerhead. Motors only have about 540 hours however they are 20 years old…

I get it. Same thing when I bought my 2007 F250s. Enough other owners on the main forum convinced me that the 2007's were past the corrosion issue. Same may be true with yours - I don't know - but others will. But best to negotiate with best knowledge you can get. As you seem to be doing.

Gulfstream is a nicely laid out boat. Local dealer, Mariner Marine, let us sea trial one for a couple of days back in 2005. My wife preferred the cabin layout of the 258 Journey, so that's what we got at the time.
