2006 228 seafarer

I believe he's looking for recommendations as to what batteries he should replace his current ones with. To the OP, if your current setup works for you as is, I'd just replace the old ones with the same size/style of new ones. I bought my boat back in October of 2021, ran the batteries that came with the boat (both cranking/starting batteries) just fine for two seasons before pulling the boat out of the water in the late fall/early winter of 2023. When I pulled the boat out of the water, she wouldn't start, nor did the batteries have date codes/stickers on them, so I figured it was time to replace them. Called up my local Grady White dealership and asked what they recommended replacing them with, of which they said to just replace the old ones with the same size/style of new ones. As mentioned above, the old ones were both cranking/starting batteries and they were both group 24's, of which I got two Interstate brand 24M-XHD batteries and haven't had any problems since then. That being said, besides basic electronics like my Garmin 943xsv, a radio, downriggers and a few other things, I don't run as much electronics as you do, nor do I have a radar on my boat. You could likely jump up a size if you can fit them in the battery boxes, though the 24's for me were a bit of a tight squeeze. Might be able to separate the batteries out and run one on each side, as I believe mine are both on the port side of the boat... not sure how yours are setup. If no one else responds to you on here, I'd recommend a quick call to your local Grady White dealership and see what they have to say on the matter. Good luck!

Regardless, my first thought was "does your current accessory buss have the capacity for the added devices? In additions, some info on the boat would be helpful such as number and model of motor(s). present battery count and configuration. What type of usage you typically do on an outing. For example, do you anchor up and have everything running (including the stereo) and how long do you sit anchored without the motor running?

What size battery do you have now and can you fit larger ones.
All the above info will helb with the battery selection.

The title of the post says the boat is a 2006 GW 228 Seafarer, which only comes with a single outboard, I imagine it's likely a single F225-F250. As stated above, if the boat is wired up similarly to mine, it should have two Group 24 batteries on the port side rear of the boat underneath the stern seats. My boat was/is setup with having two starting/cranking batteries. Though, not all boats are the same configuration, as some boats have more batteries than others, or they've got a starting/cranking battery and then a deep cycle, etc. So, not every single boat is going to be configured the same way. Also as mentioned above, the OP should check to see what their current battery configuration is and report back on the matter. As well as should likely replace what he's got with the same thing, just new batteries.
 
2006 228 with 2006 F250, 12" MFD, Radar and Autopilot. I'm running 2 Group 24s. Adequate for me. I do do a lot of trolling.
I do carry a slighty smaller "just in case battery" (not connected) under the starboard transom seat. Haven't had to used it.
